Why do you believe in your Religion?

And life is not meaningless. My reason for living is because "I want to".

It is good enough for me.

Did you determine to be born? Will you determine when you will die? Look at the stars tonight and let me know if you can deny a supreme being? The earth is pretty tiny compared to the rest of the universe.

Believe in God or don't believe in God it makes no difference, pick one and move on.

Don't you believe that is a dishonest answer. How did you determine that you would exist? You had nothing to do with it, right?

Some very good questions.

Let me get the help of someone smater than me. ;)

"I think, therefore I am"

René Descartes

See Descartes could not figure out if he existed.

"But I have convinced myself that there is absolutely nothing in the world, no sky, no earth, no minds, no bodies. Does it now follow that I too do not exist? No: if I convinced myself of something [or thought anything at all] then I certainly existed. But there is a deceiver of supreme power and cunning who is deliberately and constantly deceiving me. In that case I too undoubtedly exist, if he is deceiving me; and let him deceive me as much as he can, he will never bring it about that I am nothing so long as I think that I am something. So, after considering everything very thoroughly, I must finally conclude that the proposition, I am, I exist, is necessarily true whenever it is put forward by me or conceived in my mind."

He needed one truth where he could stand.

"Archimedes used to demand just one firm and immovable point in order to shift the entire earth; so I too can hope for great things if I manage to find just one thing, however slight, that is certain and unshakable."

And the only thing he could prove was that he was thinking; his one truth.

-----

I could not go through my entire life questioning why I existed; it had already been 5 years of being a complete zombie. I had to reach a conclusion if I was going to live life. Much like Descartes needed to define if he existed.

Why do I exist? I want to

You need to find one thing to stand on and build from there, but do not go through life so preoccupied with it's meaning that you forget to live it.

There is only one truth, yet it is explained and interpreted in different ways. One person may use metaphors or allusions to define a certain truth where another may try to explain the actual object itself. When one honestly looks at all the world's great religions, one will inevetably find a certain amount of truth in all of them. The voice of truth is quiet and subtle, and can be heard in all religions. "Be still, and know that I am God."

Jesus in me
Why do you believe in your Religion? Could you please explain what you believe about your Religion? What happens if I do not believe in the way you do? Thank you for your help and answers.

It gives me eternal life.

Christian: I believe that Jesus brings me life through the Paraclete by keeping me from sin.

Baptist: I still retain a belief in that which I was taught as a youth: 1. The Preisthood of Believers 2. The body is the temple of God 3. The Bible is the word of God

You will die a spiritual death. You will be locked out of corporeal life for a very long time. You will not get to experience a world without evil. Your life will not be as good as it could be.

Worshipping because you desire heaven is not considered worthy in my faith. We are supposed to worship God because He is God and it is right to do so. To do it for hope of paradise or fear of death is not worthy of God.

"WORSHIP thou God in such wise that if thy worship lead thee to the fire, no alteration in thine adoration would be produced, and so likewise if thy recompense should be paradise. Thus and thus alone should be the worship which befitteth the one True God. Shouldst thou worship Him because of fear, this would be unseemly in the sanctified Court of His presence, and could not be regarded as an act by thee dedicated to the Oneness of His Being. Or if thy 78 gaze should be on paradise, and thou shouldst worship Him while cherishing such a hope, thou wouldst make God's creation a partner with Him, notwithstanding the fact that paradise is desired by men.
Fire and paradise both bow down and prostrate themselves before God. That which is worthy of His Essence is to worship Him for His sake, without fear of fire, or hope of paradise.
Although when true worship is offered, the worshipper is delivered from the fire, and entereth the paradise of God's good-pleasure, yet such should not be the motive of his act. However, God's favour and grace ever flow in accordance with the exigencies of His inscrutable wisdom."
(The Bab, Selections from the Writings of the Bab, p. 78)

To decide to follow Jesus because you desire paradise and fear hell is to succumb to Pascal's wager, which is empty and loveless.

Why do you believe in your Religion?

because when i let go of my faith, i can feel more strongly than ever *how* it is true, in the absence of over-consideration of nuance, the Spirit of faith and Truth comes back.

Could you please explain what you believe about your Religion?

i believe that meaning in human life comes from an ability to recognize the presence of God, to be mindful of others, and to one's self, and being able to inter-weave these relationships purposefully and bravely, in part through letting go of self-consciousness and kind of going with the heart's flow and natural desire to connect with others and respond to that of God within the world.

What happens if I do not believe in the way you do?

well, you sure ain't going to hell, so far as i'm concerned. it is up to you to find Truth through yourself, others, and exploring ideas about the Divine. i do not think that Truth can speak ultimately through only one person, book, or doctrine.

My religion allows me to cultivate the moral strength and intellectual fibre to exist as an independent, freethinking spiritualist.
