Why do you think the interest in the paranormal is going up?

There also seems to be a drop in organized religion at the same time. I think some are just trading one belief system for another.

My personal suspicion is that much of this interest in the paranormal (and other things, like reincarnation, etc.) is a manifestation of a lessening of belief in the traditional beliefs of religion. I think the slow migration away from churches in much of the west (less so in Muslim countries) coincides with the rise of "New Age" notions in the 1970's and 1980's.

It's a bit sad to contemplate that without a solid philosophy of one's own, including a good grounding in science, a decrease of faith in one indemonstrable belief system must inevitably involve an increase of some other such system.

Because we've failed miserably at teaching critical thinking skills in this country and the less critical you are in your thinking the more likely you are to accept claims without any verifiable evidence. It's the same reason that Q-Anon is popular and a disgustingly large percentage of the population moronically believe that the last election in this nation was stolen. People who aren't taught how to critically assess a claim are more likely to believe any ridiculous claim that they hear, especially if it conforms with what they would like to believe.

In Islam, it is known that the world of will be filled with destruction, evilness, more and more until there will be no one saying Allah...then that is when the Day of Judgement will start. Jinn mess with people. They can cause harm and even kill if they want. They are creatures of the unseen and they can appear or not appear...depending on them. So in Islam, The evilness in the world will only get worse until the day of judgement and I think that many people are inquisitive and want to know more about these beings of the unknown.

Speaking from the perspective of a seasoned paranormal investigator, I believe that public interest in the paranormal has been steadily growing in the last few years because believing in human spirits and other spiritual entities is now generally accepted by most people. In fact, 57% of Americans believe in ghosts. I think that curiosity (not being confined by the strenuous restrictions of traditional religious beliefs) has a lot to do with the rising interest in the paranormal, as well. That's been my experience, anyway.

For the record, I have threads in this forum about some of my recent paranormal investigations.

Unless I'm investigating a haunted location alone, then I'm approached by other people who are genuinely curious to know what I'm doing and how I'm investigating the paranormal. I will often invite these people to participate, and I let them handle my ghost hunting equipment. It's vindicating to see a hardcore skeptic's reaction when they finally realize that what they're seeing with their own eyes and hearing with their own ears is actually paranormal activity. The paranormal activity is also validated by my high-tech equipment that they also witness firsthand. I enjoy seeing a hardcore skeptic's shocked reaction when they hear their first EVP, or see their first SLS camera image, or they witness poltergeist activity with their own eyes. It's a life changing experience for them.

SLS - Structured Light Sensor

An SLS camera can detect human shapes in absolute darkness or full light. It allows paranormal investigators to detect spirits that cannot be seen with the naked eye, unless the spirits manifest. It gives them the ability to see a 3D image (sort of like a skeleton) of a spirit. The green lines and white dots are a spirit that has been mapped out by the SLS camera through an infrared grid.

EVP - Electronic Voice Phenomena

An EVP is the voice of a spirit interacting with living people through an EVP recorder or a digital recorder. A Spirit Box (Ghost Box) gives spirits the chance to speak in comprehensive sentences. A Class-A EVP is a direct and intelligent answer to a question.

EMF - Electromagnetic Fields

An EMF meter (EMF detector) measure fluctuations in electromagnetic fields. It's a common theory among paranormal investigators that spirits have the ability to manipulate these fields. Unexplained EMF readings often indicate something paranormal.

Is it? Compared to the 60's it's barely on the radar, and has a long, long way to go.

I've had people walk up to me and ask me questions during my paranormal investigations, and they're genuinely intrigued by what I'm doing. They become even more enthusiastic whenever I let them participate in the investigation. Some people are really keen when I let them walk around (close to me) with my SLS camera. They say, "Oh my god, oh my god! Did you see that?" (often mixed with profanity) whenever images start to appear on the camera. I also let people participate in EVP sessions with my Spirit Box. I let them ask questions, and I like to see the shocked look on their faces whenever they receive direct answers to their questions.

I absolutely love it whenever a hardcore skeptic freaks out after hearing spirits speak through the Spirit Box, or they hear their first EVP on an EVP recorder, or they see their first SLS image. It's even better whenever they personally witness poltergeist activity. Of course, they want to know how my ghost hunting equipment works, so I explain it to them. I let skeptics handle my equipment, and they walk around with the devices. Most skeptics smart off at first when they're walking around with my equipment, but after they witness something paranormal, then they'll get serious about it. I always tell these hardcore skeptics that seeing is believing, and I think it's best that they're handling the equipment when they see something paranormal for the first time in their life. Frankly, I'm proud to say that I've converted my fair share of hardcore skeptics since I've been collecting tangible evidence of the paranormal. I want other people (hardcore skeptics and paranormal enthusiasts alike) to have a glimpse into what I see and even experience the paranormal firsthand for themselves. It's genuinely gratifying whenever a skeptic witnesses something paranormal for themselves, especially if the skeptic is a devout evangelical Christian, or if the skeptic is an atheist, and they firmly don't believe in an afterlife.

People are getting more and more disillusioned by all the distressing events happening worldwide, they’re desperate to find answers.

Really? Can you provide some examples from the ‘60s?

“Harry Potter” movies (Interest skyrocketed!!)

“Supernatural” TV series

“Amityville Horror” TV & movies

“Poltergeist” movie

“The Exorcist” I & II (Granted, the first one is kinda old.)

On and on…

This is a subjective list from IMDb.
Of the 99 listed, only 2 are from the ‘60s….many from the 2000’s!:

It seems to me interest in the paranormal peaked in the '60s and '70s.
The counterculture was involved, the government and military funded secret ESP and Telekinesis programs, it was part of popular culture. There were psychic Star Trek characters, and the crew had psychic ratings as part of their UFP records.
