I want to hear people's explanation as to why.

Because it's a greatly anthropomorphized concept.

Coming in late. I don't agree with the thread title. God does talk with us but our listening is the issue. I believe Rumi said "God speaks to you through everything and everyone, but if you're listening to your own thoughts, you'll never hear it." It's only when we quiet the constant chatter of our minds and calm our cravings that the "voice" of Divinity can be heard.
