Why I Hate History

hmmm i'm not so sure that's a correct assumption...we use a book caled "Meditations on the Torah" when we study the weekly parashat. Everyweek the sections take commentary from scholars and sages going back centuries and basically have a sort of debate on that weeks parashat. I don't recall at any time all of them agreeing, or even the majority agreeing, on the meaning of a particular verse...and these are the best and brightest.
So which one of them is reading "wrong" and the other "right"?
I'm afraid I would be one to classify that under "not that important to begin with". Whoever has the most love in thier heart while interpreting it is the one that's right.

A bit subjective don't you think? Sort of like history:jiggy:
I don't really see reading the bible as a matter of being right or wrong...it's a matter of both interpretation and what you glean from the texts and stories in them...

Yep. But if you don't got love, you can't interpret it right, you know?

No, that would be very difficult, but at the same time, Jewscout is also right. You can have three people, all very kind and loving, look at the same Scripture and get five opinions...

I know. I hate it when that happens.

Well you can interpret it w/ or w/o "love" it will just give you a more "the glass is half empty" sort of interpretation of the text i think...it's not just a holy scripture...it's also a piece of literature and a document of historical importance (whether you choose to believe it to be historical fact, traditions and stories of a people, or for use in understanding the growth of the Christian church or jewish nation) and as such is open to interpretations by all peoples w/ varying degrees of "love" in their heart...
