Why is Glen Beck so Popular?

Why is Glen Beck so popular? What's his attraction?

I think because he tries to tap into populist notions with ideas of horror and doom waiting just around the corner. People really seem to dig that. I personally find him rather grating in a lot of ways, but I feel that way about every broadcast presenter.

Ever watched a dog make stool. The hunched up manner in which it slowly tip toes around the yard.

It's a similar sort of fascination.
I get that feeling watching Keith Oberman too. American TV sucks... so very hard, these days.

As to why Glenn Beck is supposedly popular. If he is, it is only because his competitors are so incredibly lousy.

I'll take "BS on a Blackboard" for $1,000, Alex.

I think Beck is popular for the same reason that Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin, and their ilk are getting rich - they play to the fears and bigotry of that percentage of our population that thrives on having their ignorance reinforced. The fact that 90% (and I'm being generous) of their drivel is outright BS is immaterial.

Then again, I may be biased. As the saying goes - everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts.

In all honesty, I really couldn't listen to Air America for the same reason. I found the majority of their programming just as far outside the lines as the majority of Faux News.

Beckisms:
  • “Every night I get down on my knees and pray that Dennis Kucinich will burst into flames.” (2003)
  • "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it." (2005)
  • "When I see a 9/11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh shut up' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining." (2005)
  • “The only [Katrina victims] we’re seeing on television are the scumbags.” (2005)
  • “Let me tell you something, there ain’t [nothing] better than looking at a hot, naked chick.” (2006)

In order to increase his popularity, is it possible that Glen Beck uses evil rites conducted in a New York cellar and washed in the blood of children? Not saying. Just asking. I myself don't know.

who is Glen Beck ?
It seems he is only popular in the back yard of the USA.
Perhaps his wisdom does not travel well ?

He has no wisdom. He is a talking head on the Faux News Channel, here in America. He plays to the less intelligent, rabid crowd of the far right wing of the American political spectrum. His "schtick" includes fake tears during his broadcasts (check out this video) - it is Beck having Vick's VapoRub smeared under his eyes so that he can cry on camera. Notice that he complains that he has done it so often that he is actually beginning to get used to it, and it is losing it's effect on him:

Believe me - you couldn't make up someone as "over the top" as this guy. The sad part is that, there is a small (but highly devoted) contingent that really buy into this pile of dung.
