Why is it always the Mormons?

Rejoice in the Lord!
Not only do they see us as competing for the same converts, they don't like the fact that we're gaining on them. :D Maybe our name's not long enough. Maybe something a little more along the lines of "The Evil Heretical Church of a Different, Non-Biblical, Counterfeit Jesus Christ of Latter-day Wannabe Saints" would make them happy.

I think the Mormon Church is the one to first call the historical Christian church to be apostate. You make me chuckle, which is a good thing. God saves whom He wills (Rom 9).

Biblical Christains are more than conquerors by the sovereign grace of God.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:

"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I don't think that counts. Though, it was pretty damn fun to watch the EC bunch fawn all over him for a while.

Silly evangelicals, trix are for kids.

Fundamentalism can't survive without an enemy. You can't be saved unless somebody else is damned; you can't be chosen unless somebody else is rejected. It doesn't matter whether you're going after the Catholics, or the Muslims, or the homosexuals, or the Mormons -- as long as you're going after somebody.

Unfortunately with so many people who are "special," it ends up that none of them are actually special at all. So sad.

Over the year and a half or so I've been a member of RF, I've noticed that Protestant Christians who identify as "evangelicals," "fundamentalists" and "born again" ("EC" for short) regularly target the beliefs of LDS far more so than any other belief system, even though, frankly, LDS and EC have what appear to me to be very similar aesthetic values. Not to say that all EC do it . . . . just that many of them do . . . and when they do, they almost always zero in on Mormons.

Why is that? I'd like to hear opinions from anybody on the subject. Why not Buddhism? Judaism? Or Islam?

Why do you think it's so important for so many EC to argue with Mormons?

I think Evangelicals like to evangelize Mormons because they are willing to talk about God...of course to a point. It's an Evangelical's dream when young Mormon missionaries come to our homes, because it's a divine appointment to share the Biblical Christ with them. How often does an Evangelical have a representative from Buddhism, Judasim, or Islam come to their homes? I think Evangelicals don't discriminate with only Mormons, since Evangelicals will bring the great good news of God to anyone who is willing to listen. The mission field is quite large. Heck, I had a Mormon work associate share the Mormon Faith with me because he knew I was a Christian. I ended up sharing the Biblical Christ with both himself and his wife for several weeks. I even sent them a large print NIV Bible because the Holy Spirit is like the wind (John 3). Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the words of Christ (rom 1). We are still good friends, but he avoids talking about religion. I wonder why? Nothing happens by chance.

Probably because they believe in beliefs rather than the God the beliefs point to.

II Cor 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side,
Yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not forsaken;
Cast down, but not destroyed

I think that's the thing. We believe in the Biblical Christ too. It doesn't really make sense to me why somebody wants to "share the Bible" with me, when I already believe in it.

I don't think LDS have problems accepting other Christian churches as Christian. While many other Christian Churches don't accept us as Christian.

I hope you understand we are speaking the truth in love when we share the Biblical Christ with you. It would be an unkind act to let you think that you believe in the same Christ as Historical Christians (Protestants, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox Christians). That is the reason why I share with you, and all other Mormons who are willing to listen. The Biblical Christ is the one revealed in the 13 Epistles written by Paul.

So you believe that we don't believe in the Biblical christ because we don't share your interpretation of Him? Hmm. Well all I can say is that I believe in the Christ of the Bible. When I share the Book of Mormon I'm not teaching a different Christ from that in the Bible. I'm teaching more about the Christ from the Bible.

Not sure why you included "Protestants" in that list of "Historical Christians".... Catholics don't even recognize protestant groups as "churches" and the Orthodox still refers to protestants as "heretics".... seems before you attack the Mormons, some might need to get their own house in order.

Just a thought.:)

Good point...

:eek::eek:ooopps ... This is different from the Christ mentioned aobve.

It will be unkind indeed. The LDS should find that as a compliment, I would!

I wonder why isn't the LDS fighting back. didn't you know fish-hunter that the churches you mentioned might actually be more anti-biblical Christian than biblcially christian?

Well the only real historical church would be the Catholic church. Since it is the one that decended directly from Christ's original church. Any other church that stemmed from it couldn't be true.

So either the Catholic church is the true church, or the apostasy did happen and a restorationist church is true.
