Why is pornography bad?

I also said, "When it becomes an addiction." I think that clarifies that I was referring to "When it becomes an addiction."

I recognize that it's not always instantly addicting. But in society, it happens often enough that it becomes a societal problem. People get fired from their jobs, marriages are broken up, etc. So to a secular society, and to the government of that society, it becomes a concern..."WHEN IT BECOMES AN ADDICTION."

As are all the activities I mentioned earlier.

So in your mind Porn is no more inherently "Bad" than watching TV?

Just trying to clarify what you`re saying here.

Haha you didn't say "when it becomes an addiction", and I said "in a secular society". Stop ignoring the words I write if you're going to discuss this with me. As it pertains to a secular society, absent any addiction, I suppose porn isn't any worse than watching tv--in fact, much porn is watched on TV, yes?

In my moral view, and my religious view, there is a significant difference between porn and big macs, or porn and marital sex, for that matter. I'm glad I've left this out of the discussion because apparently you're a word-twister, and this would just make me angry, these beliefs being closer to my heart.

Thank you.
That was far more difficult than it had to be.

Your uninformed opinion has been noted.

My impression is that Danmac likes porn and thinks it's pretty harmless. If he didn't he would say so in no uncertain terms.

My wife would probably object to me watching porn. If I insisted on watching porn it probably wouldn't be good for our marriage. But that's just her. That is why it is wrong for me. btw. I married a model, I don't need porn.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I am glad that porn plays no part in my marriage. Been there, done that, and I prefer relationships that do not involve porn. So does my husband, so we're good together, especially in that arena.

To each his own.

Whats worse? Porn on TV or Violence?
I've seen a lot of violence on TV, but no porn, at least not on any broadcast that didn't require an additional fee. Of course, if you include simulated sex as porn I guess I have, but I wouldn't call it porn. In any case, what do you mean by worse? Porn is by far more poorly presented than violence.

Assuming that those who participate in porn do so willingly, why should porn be demonized or at least condemned?

If you claim that it provokes lust please explain why lust is necessarily bad, AND THEN be prepared to back up your contention that porn actually provokes lust with facts.

It sounds like your mind is already made up.

Because excessive enjoyment will most likely give you tennis elbow :flirt:

Friend skwim,

Why is pornography bad?
Who says so??

Nothing is bad in this universe; if it were then surely it would not be there.
What is bad:
The mind's attachment to anything including porn/sex/food/etc.
Everything is energy in this universe and when the energy in any form [e.g. human] is in harmony with the energy which is outside that form [universe] then the form is in perfect balance which Jesus/Gautama/etc achieved.
The achieved this harmonizing this energy in tune with the universal energy by being able to raise this energy to its highest level at the crown chakra from where it gets connected with the universal energy and such a state is what enlightenment is all about.
When one thinks of sex and watches porn or simply have sex for release of energy then that energy gets grounded and the individual form is nowhere near that harmony and one knows/understands what that state is all about.

One is free to watch porn but WATCH the mind!

Like drugs, alcohol, and gambling ... it can destroy your life.

Isn't that just it? It can destroy your life, but it doesn't necessarily mean that any of those three, or pornography, will destroy your life.

I believe if things are in moderation, then it's okay. What the porn stars do with their life has nothing to do with me, so I can't judge them or their career choice. If you don't agree with it, don't watch it, but I don't like it people will go past that and try and stop it happening, when it doesn't hurt anyone and people are willingly choosing to watch or partake in such things.

Like zenzero says, Watch the mind!

There seems to be some evidence that the easy availability of pornography reduces the sexual crime rate against women.
