Why is scripture no longer being written today?

I thought "scripture" - as used in inter-religious dialogue - simply refers to any and all sacred texts of the world's religions. Restricting its meaning this way is putting a heavily Christian-centric bent on it, which I doubt the OP wished to limit to.

Yeah, I'm not really familiar with every text in the world which goes by the name 'scripture.' But it's like the word 'God'. When we hear it in the west, we make certain assumptions about what it most likely means. For myself, I consider every word from my mouth and pen to be scripture. And from yours.

Friends,

The origin of the word 'SCRIPTURES' must have come from the word 'SCRIPT' to 'write'.
Somehow writings on that which leads to enlightenment got labelled as Scriptures.

It would be an interesting thing to look into - the origins and reasoning behind various sacred texts, I mean - considering the prevalence of oral traditions for the vast majority of human history (and their continued presence in some areas today). Why the shift? Why not just stick with oral traditions that evolve as they need to over time instead of being fossilized in writing?

The written word is magic. If we see it written, especially in an honored Book, well... it's holy.

Personally, I think it's among the worst things ever to happen to humanity... for some prophet's words to be fossilized that way.

Thats simple. Guess its evolution that humans started to communicate with signs then language developed and so mostly it was all oral in the beginning before humans developed script and then write and save. Now we do not write much but type more and save as soft copies. Rather it would be interesting to see how the future goes. Already a global language is evolving with sms, texting besides convergence of religion too and surely the realization thats its one human race which limited minds have divided into countries, race, religions etc. Its like all paths leading to Rome but still the minds do not accept.

Who decided to identify books on various religions as Scriptures have no idea as common understanding is that all scripts that gets written should be labelled as scriptures; what do you say??
