Why is someone praying for someone else offensive

We Never Know

No Slack
If someone prays for you and if it offends you, Why?
It doesn't cost you anything
It doesn't take away your time
It doesn't require your effort
It doesn't take away your birthday

So....
Bob says I will pray for you
Bill says good luck
Sally says I wish you the best
Betty says may fate be on your side
Steve says hope everything works out

Aren't they all just hoping the best for you?

It's a nice gesture as they are doing for me what I can't do myself.
Does it offend you when I think for you in return?

I would never feel offended , even theistic prayer. Because as you say, it reflects the good intentions of those who pray over somebody's well-being or circumstance.

I would never object to a compassionate gesture.

There is no problem with someone praying for me the problem is them telling me about it and expecting me to react to it.

Here's your own suggestions and how I react.

1)I will pray for you. You are putting in an effort to do something. You feel this is worthful effort for my cause. If I don't respond in the positive you will get upset as you believe I am offending you.
2)Good Luck, No effort random outcome.
3) I wish you the best. No effort positive feeling
4) May fate be on your side, No effort random outcome
5) Hope everything works out, No effort hopeful

Praying for me doesn't offend me, putting me on the spot for an effort I didn't ask for makes me uncomfortable and that seems to offend the person praying and then angers me. Why, I didn't ask for your effort, I probably don't support your belief and then you get offended when I show uncomforting feelings. Pick one of the others and then pray for me in silence.

It shows lack of respect for your feelings.

Aren't they all just hoping the best for you?

Much of the time no, it is often used as a "you're going to hell threat"

Are you claiming prayer, luck, wishes, etc are a curse?
It depends upon the giver's intent.
I just wondered if you know the term I posted.

BTW, I once had a storage tenant tell me...
"God will get me."
I took no offense.
Her brain just works that way.

I think some people are misunderstanding people saying they'll pray for them as some kind of backhanded offence. It is really not meant that way. One wonders if the recipient's ideology is projecting onto the person offering the prayer.

I'd probably prefer they did something concrete to affect things rather than relying on some imaginary entity to do anything, even if praying didn't do any harm. But what is it doing for those who pray?

They believe it works. Why else would they bother?
