Why is there no outcry from the Christian Right against divorce?

No, the 13 years old cannot provide clear informed consent. They aren't well informed and experienced enough to provide the "informed" part of "informed consent". In country which base entirely the morality of sexual relationship on clear informed consent, child marriage is a crime.

Ironically, in certain part of the US and certain country of the world, this particular scenario is currently legal. It was also legal for the longest part of human history. Fight against child marriage is very much a modern thing carried mostly by feminist activists all around the world.

Child marriage is a crime. Yes, divorce was a crime once - even the king of England couldn't get a divorce.
And adultery was a crime - punishable by death even in Western countries.
And feminism ca 1900 was considered revolting to most people.
And homosexuality was a crime.
So marrying pubescent kids will be okay - just not right now. Society will become more "tolerant" in the
future. Look at my stats below.

They (Christian Right) were so fixated on prohibiting same sex marriage, really without any valid Biblical citations, that they completely ignored Matthew 7. Or maybe they have an edited versions?

Of course there's an outcry!

I was a member for decades of a Christian movement with a less than 3% divorce rate.

Your point is ridiculous
No, it's not.

(Maybe you did divorce or committed adultery once in your life, and that is the reason you say "your point is ridiculous". But it is not !)

I am not Christian, so why have Christians lobbied so hard to prevent me from marrying whom I want?

Answer is simple. The Christians doing this, don't follow the Bible, they only follow their own arrogant and hypocritical EGO

BTW, lets have a Hindu exegesis of Matthew 7. Put your feet up, unwind your turban, put Ravi Shankar low on the stereo, start some incense in that burner shaped like a woman with eight arms, and tell me all about it.
Typical Christian.

Uhhhh, no they aren't.

Fundie types might actively try to ban it, but the church as a whole is concerned with... well, the church as a whole. The church as a whole is fine as long as such things are (correctly) viewed as a sin. Just as we don't ban people from church for drinking in moderation, there isn't a problem unless behavior causes self-harm or hurts others. The church doesn't call drinking good, but many churches allow it. Those that don't typically came out of members who ruined lives by drinking.

Gay sex is fine maybe if you're committed to one partner and they to you, but if y'all sleep around, you're likely to get STDs, especially AIDS. Crossdressing is fine, but sex change surgeries often leave you sterile, and dependent on medication to survive. But the church as a whole is primarily concerned with accepting destructive behavior as "normal". The church frowns on divorce too. But much of these LGBT priests are too similar to what happened in the Catholic church with creepy priests molesting ppl.

Also, that is really terrible drag.

There is a common rational behind all those changes that doesn't exist for child marriage: clear, informed consent. Child marriage became a crime, much like marital rape (by that I mean sexual assault commited by a husband or a wife toward his or her spouse). If you take into account those changes for they are changes as well as others concerning sexual assault and exploitation, you will realise that society isn't moving toward a ''everything is permissible state'' but toward that where clear informed consent is the basis.

I also need to mention that child marriage is legal in many US States (and not the most liberal) and several countries in the world (mostly in central Asia). It was also legal for the vast majority of human history. The marriable age for a girl in Ancient Rome, Grece and Palestine was about 15 years old, usually with significantly older men. Many have suggested that Mary was still a teenager when she gave birth to Jesus while Joseph was a much older man who had children from another marriage.

What is ridiculous is the statement that there is no Biblical evidence re the issue of homosexual marriage. For Christians, it is prohibited.

The OP was about why Christians don't obey what the Bible tells them to do when it comes to divorce. Or is it OK for Christians to cherry-pick what parts of the Bible they will honor and which they will ignore?

This is referring to those who are selective in what they focus on, not Christians who are consistent

Yes. it is important that Christians be discerning.

Consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.

When I read an OP, I try to get the main point what the person wants to say.
In this case the main point was inconvenient for Christians, so I understand Christians ignore that..

Major point being: Christians being "obsessed" about homos, are going around judging them, forgetting their own shortcomings (which are plenty)

The "argument" that Joseph had children to a previous marriage is proffered
by the Roman Catholic Church so as to turn Mary into a deity to rival Jesus.
The "argument" goes that Mary remained a virgin. But the Gospel said she
was a virgin "until" she had Jesus. And David spoke of Jesus' brothers and
sisters - children of his mother.

As for young kids marrying. It's no stretch of the imagination to consider 12
year old demanding to be treated as adults. We have, right now, children
having the "right" to sex changes at a much younger age - and the government
can take that child from it's parents. Happening right now in Australia. This
came out of utterly nowhere.
And I think the war against child porn is as forlorn as the war against drugs.
Just too many millions doing it. We will get used to it - just as we did with
every other moral stricture.

Jesus had compassion on the woman taken
in adultery - but He told her to "Go, and sin no
more."
But you can never know, why Jesus said that at that specific time to that woman (unless Jesus tells you). Masters act quite different form humans.

The prohibition against same sex marriage is just wrong, at least in today's world. Doesn't matter what Moses or Paul says.

I'd be more impressed by a Bible that taught that God is as much a woman as a man, that love transcends sex and just exactly how someone can find their own beam and pluck it out.

In today's world which has largely removed slavery and is gradually developing science including psychology, we dont need to pay any heed to anti-same sex relationship ideas. There is more love and mutual respect now than any of the Biblical authors could have imagined.
My Master used to say "God is the only man, you are all women".
I like that one. At least it humbles humans.
