Why Is This

i wonder why sikhism, hinduism and buddhism are called "isms" like capitalism, communism, racism, nazism, fascism etc,

islamic fundamentalist revival is now collectively called islamism, but the religion in itself is called islam. chritianity in my knowledge is never called christianism. however Judaism is called as such!

i ask this because until specifically told that i am a hindu, i dont see the fact. so i did not name myself.

;) Beloved do not lament over details, people call things what they may but it does not change the fundemental essense of what being a hindu means no matter what term they may use.:bounce

-ism:
1. Action, process; practice.
2. Characteristic behavior or quality.
3 a. State; condition; quality: heroism.
3 b. State or condition reslulting from an excess of something specified.
4. Distinctive or characteristic trait.
5. Doctrine; theory; system of principles: pacifism.

It appears that the 5th definition applies to these religions. It doesn't seem to be intended as any form of insult.

i am sure it is not intended as a form of insult. oh i mentioned racism and nazism, just words that end with isms. No offense intended.

thanks
