Why is your faith always increased??

Why is it that a religious person always increases their faith after a talk or debate with an atheist??

Theists so often say things like, " I think it may have brought me a little bit closer to God...". Why is this, is someones faith ever decreased, or is it like a digital system, where your faith is increased or you become atheist???

This is not always the case as I know of many Christians that have had their faith decreased during conversation but they are not as fast to proclaim or announce it as they are when they experience a growth!

I can say honestly that I've had moments lately when my faith has decreased due to certain arguments, but in the same vein I've also noticed it increase for the very same reason.

Maybe they felt they had "overcome" your debates because of their strong beliefs. I dunno. Like a "test" that they have just passed. Honestly I'm not sure.

I've observed debates where one's faith was depleted and I have actually witnessed one where it completely abandoned them. These members usually do not respond over a period of time but when they return, they are usually refreshed or recharged. Where the battery for this lantern resides and why they could not bring it into the debate arena, I could not tell you.
