What's obvious to you may not be so obvious to others, and vice-versa. It has nothing to do with intelligence, but context.

If we go solely by what we see, there's nothing unintelligent with assuming Sun circles Earth, since that's just... obvious. Turns out it's wrong, but figuring that out took advanced mathematics and the kind of observations that most people don't have time for, now or in the past.
I am talking about a man in the sky, this belief to me is childish and not very intelligent.

I see, so you are.
Stunning repartee. On par with your argument. Else, I don't "cling" to faith. That's your pejorative and problem when it comes to approaching discourse on the point. My faith enlivens me, as it did Merton, or Boethius, or Lewis, or Brother Lawrence. On the plus side of the ledger for you, well, you managed a post without an "lol"...so that's something.

And yet people who have held such beliefs have, time and time again, demonstrated intelligence that is comparable to people who don't.

Just going by architecture alone, Stonehenge. The Pyramids. Vast cities.

Christian monks were the pioneers of the fields that would become the modern sciences. (Contrary to that stupid myth that we were somehow "making so much progress, then Christianity showed up and set us back").

But consider this: rain makes things grow. Here's an aspect of Father Heaven that Christianity did a pretty good job of erasing from European Lore: when it rains, that's Father Heaven and Mother Earth having sex. Rain is the Sky God's Holy Semen.

Well why don't you start a fruitful discussion ?.
This is your boat, cap'n. Quite frankly, not too terribly impressed with your maiden voyage. My point is, I do not see this as a productive way to approach the topic. But, who am I to stop ya?

#7 – Deuteronomy 23:1

No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.

#1 – Psalm 137:9

“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.”

#2 – 2 Kings 18:27

“But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? Hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own **** with you?”

The whole point of this thread is to truly look at religion and ask ourselves why ?.

Is your beef with all religion, or just Christianity?

Well Christianity is certainly on the high list, but I am talking more about organized religion who believe they and them only have the truth.
Hmm, seems like your primary targets are aggressive Abrahamic traditions (Islam and Christianity mostly). Many of the eastern traditions gain their sense of divinity through personal reflection, meditation, and contemplation of the world around them. In comparison to the Muslims and Christians who take their divine authority from a divine being.

yes there is truth in what you said, I'm not really against religion, but I am against organized religion that abuses the name of religion, true religion is only found within each one of us, try to organize that religion and it will dies.

AHHH okay. Now we are getting somewhere. I can agree with a large bit of that. I am exploring Taoism myself and... doesn't seem so bad. ;)

Yes Taoism is also my way of thinking, but I cannot really say much about the Tao, because whatever we say isn't the Tao, we can experience it, we are it, but again we cannot talk about it, and no religion could ever hold it.

I see, and what are you on ?.

Caffeine and a perscription amphetamine. Both of which help me focus my thoughts, and neither of which have hallucinagenic properties.

This is not that hard to understand. It just requires thinking in the abstract and disregarding a lot of modern myths. The Sky God isn't a person in the sky, Father Heaven is the deified sky.

It sounds to me like your perception of religion as a whole isn't just grafting Christianity on everything, it's also influenced by Christian perceptions of other religions. They depicted us as backwards and unintelligent in a propaganda smear campaign that's lasted a thousand years. Academia is only just getting away from that, and it will take some time for the Christian-influenced popular conception to catch up.

Yes I am against that also, all it brings is division, my country is better than yours, and yet we are all riding on this one speak of rock.

I think by then Christianity will be dead, religion as it is today needs to die so as to allow the truth to arise, and that truth will only be found within each one of us, this is called Self Realization.

A very Christian-esque thing to say.

It seems to me you wouldn't accept anyone's self-found "truth" that doesn't align with your expectations on what that should look like. This thing you hate that you mistakenly label as "religion" won't die at all so long as you cling to this nosnensical attitude that there can be only one "truth".
