Why the Worship of Ancient Greece and Rome?

If you think of "the road of humanity" starting as nomadic hunter-gatherers, all the way to the modern age today, then it's pretty much undeniable that the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome marked extremely important milestones in all kinds of ways.
There is no such thing, of course. It's a retrograde narrative we invented so we can tell ourselves that we are the pinnacle of a virtuous progression that all lead up to our own superior civilization.

For all we know civilization could have been a grave mistake for our ancestors and they'd rather stay nomadic hunter gatherers if they could have.

Let's put it this way...

One could glorify Djokovic's tennis skills and career, while at the same time not ignoring his rather stupid opinions and behavior regarding covid.

One could glorify Michael Jackson's contribution to music and recognize him for the musical legend that he is (and imo will remain for a very long time), even if it turns out that he's guilty concerning those pedophile cases.

Their faults don't really diminish their contributions or make them less important.

Why should Rome or Greece be any different?
There's a difference between "glorifying" aspects of Rome and Rome in general.

I get that but have either of those two added much to the human journey,a good tennis player and to be fair an awesome showman,Greece has undoubtedly impacted on the human journey, one could glorify Aristotle but he also had slaves,Rome had some good historians but they also had slaves, either way and imo glorifying aspect or in general it’s difficult to see glory.

The difference is we know and acknowledge that regardless of what did or did not occur Michael did act inappropriately.
When it comes to Rome, their bad is severely and grossly swept under the rug, to the point were taught "barbarians" were causing boarder problems and conducting raids that were problematic for Rome. We aren't taught these people were fighting for their freedom, fighting against an oppressive war machine that destroyed amd enslaved all in its path.
