Does anyone else find the idea that the Word could not read kind of ironic?

:biglaugh:

Well, by the time Jesus was the Word, he could read and write.

My other thread was removed so re-worded the question. Why was the son of god not educated?

Or do you beleive he was?

Also why did he not see or feel the need to record his teachings?

You asked a simple question and this thread demonstrated, if nothing else, the difficulty of discerning an historical Jesus from the "Only begotten Son of God," who came to die for the sins of man, so that all people may have everlasting life in heaven.

I just wanted to let you know that I for one appreciate your questioning the status quo.

You don't have to be literate to learn from books - they can (and were) housed in a library or school (in the case of the Jews, a synagogue) and read to folks who memorized them.

The same thing happened with philosophy. Wealthy people could have books and have their slaves read to them, eventually the slave could be free and teach others without books - such is the case with Epictetus.

While Jesus received no formal education and was almost certainly illiterate (which would have been an historical anomaly if he was), he could have been exposed to learning in nearby cities.

On the point that no one would listen to him if he were not educated - he was an uneducated man speaking to uneducated people - all he needed to do was speak well.

Just thought it might be interesting to bump this thread.
