Why Would Anyone Choose to be Willfully Ignorant?

Magic Man

Reaper of Conversation
As they say "Ignorance is bliss"

and it can be. Totally OT but when my 5 week old son had a 103 fever he went to the local Childrens Hospital ER. He was admitted while they determine if he viral vs. baterial menigentis. I was like 'OK' NOBODY told me that baterial could be FATAL. In many ways I am glad otherwise I would have been worried sick! Luckily he only had viral and I only discovered the danger when i looked it up on WebMD when we got home 2 days later :). BTW he turned 3 yesterday in perfect health!

I'm glad to hear he's OK! :)

My last dog died of bacterial meningitis, so I learned the hard way how dangerous a bacterial infection can be. :(

wow this is sad. so you wanna be ignorant jsut for happiness? if everyone thinks that way then the day will come when we'll be screwed. actually the day is already here....high gas prices, a crumbling economy, growing wars, police like states, corruption in government, etc. would it really have happened if you'd been aware of it all before let alone be aware of what's really going on right now? so that happiness you were going for won't last long because you chose to be ignorant.

i guess they like to be a slave. they like having someone richer and more powerful tell them what to do so they won't think for themselves. they've screwed the rest of us over with their 'ignorance is bliss' bs.

As far as I know, there is no term or concept in Psychology that accurately defines an idea and term that I have created (with the help of Noam Chomsky).

Intentional Ignorance:
The process of willfully sabotaging an opportunity to learn or gain insight into a particular object (material/conceptual or otherwise) in order to cease the potential manifestation of cognitive dissonance.

Love > Purpose/God > Self > Hobbies/Interests > Society/Politics

That's how I feel about priorities in life right now. If you get the last one in front of any of the others, I feel horribly sorry for you.
