Why Would He Do This?

So, I go out walking a lot to town and back. Every single time this guy in this car passes by, he yells 'OY!' at me really loudly for no reason. Always at me, no-one else. I do not know this person but I want to smash his headlights. Why would he do this? It is really infuriating. Why can't he just leave me alone?
Do you have a visible reaction? Is it just a loud yell as you pass by, or has he ever said anything further?

Maybe the next time he does it I should pretend to fall and have a heart attack and then he'll be like, Oh ****.

You think he might be flirting?

No. I wouldn't consider persistent harassment flirting. If he is not man enough to catch me in town and actually speak to me to see if he actually likes me, then no.

So maybe he is a creepy stalker, in which case, be careful.

my opinion is that he either finds you attractive and is a bt of a ******** enough to think thats (1) a good chat up line or (2) hes the type to get a little thrill thinking he has made you go all shy due to his overwhelming charm. either way i think you should take it as a compliment (which it is no matter how unreturned it is) and in future dont allow him to be aware he has an effect on you. he may deserve his headlights smashed but he probably wouldnt think twice about pressing charges. so that leaves you with trying, if possible, to instead shw him how much you're ignoring him. will **** him off no end

I can't really ignore him though as it just comes out of nowhere and scares me.

I don't say anything, I just jump and continue walking. Not sure if he's trying to make me talk or something.

like i say he probably thinks its a good technique to meet women, not all men (or women for that matter) grow up and out of teenage bravado. it will be tough but im sure you will be able to react in a way that encourages him to stop. and if all else fails, drag him out the car and knock him out haha

My parents had an issue with a neighbor who would yell "********" every time we rode by his house. He would then proceed to jump into his car through an open window and follow us, sometimes yelling **** at us. He would also park his car in front of our house in the middle of the night and get out to walk his dogs.

Eventually, we called the police and he got charged with harassment and stalking, and was released on bond the next day. Nonetheless, he stopped.

thats horrific, im glad to hear he eventually stopped. although i think your experience was a bit different in both reason and action compared to the original threads experience

Yep, I suspect it is just a prat who is doing it "for a laugh". The fact that you jump when he shouts "Oy!" is probably a source of endless amusement to him. Don't jump and you spoil his fun. The other alternative is to walk down that road 5 or 10 minutes earlier, I assume you are going or coming from work/college when he sees you, so it is regular time slot? Don't tell me he cruises up and down the road all day looking for you? That would be creepy!

No, it's not regular and I don't work or go to college. He just happens to pass me often at different times, which is why I cannot predict it and always jump.

I have known some (really thick) blokes who think they can 'woo' a damsel by shouting at them from a distance, but I suspect this one is just being a d*ck. A while ago I was walking through a shopping centre when a lad approached me, said "I don't believe it! It's you! How have you been? What you been doing?" as though we were long lost buddies. In a split second I recognised it as a "gag" him and his mates were playing on passers by, and scarcely made eye contact with him. So no reaction and the prank falls flat, what they want is a reaction - surprise, bafflement etc., that is what amuses them. A "big lad's laugh" is all I suspect it is. If you can condition yourself not to jump you beat him.;) Wear some headphones and drown the fool out with your favourite tracks.

Startled scare or danger scare? If you feel threatened you should contact the police. Is this someone near your age or an older guy?
