Why would you put another member on ignore?

Do you have any members of RF on your ignore list? What are your criteria or reasonings for putting someone there.

This morning, I received a message from a fellow member. They informed me that I am now on their ignore list.

It felt rather unprovoked, I don't think I ever offended them or something. I always got the feeling they didn't like me though due to their constant dismissive attitude towards me, which I guess I was right.

I have one person on ignore. I'm pretty sure they are literally senile because they would flood my threads with pages of incoherent gibberish. Seeing literal gibberish fill up more than half my browser page was frustrating, and made me worry about the member. So they are ignored.

Other than that, I haven't found a good reason to ignore anyone else. What about you?

I have less than 20 on ignore added over 6 years, i guess around half of them have left

They are mostly on my ignore list for deliberate ignorance, i e. Ignoring fact and verified evidence in favour if bloody stupid beliefs.

A few are on ignore for provocation, i.e. they tried to provoke me into losing it in the hope of getting me band.

A couple are on ignore because i was advised by staff to put them there when the provocation became personal.

When it's not worth the trouble ignore is my answer.

Sure its a cop out but I don't really care, i have too much fun here.

I'm here for fun in my spare time. I'm pretty liberal with the ignore button.

I'll put people on ignore if they repeatedly interfere with me enjoying myself on RF unless I think I can learn something from them or I have some other reason for continuing to read their posts.

Nobody's entitled to our attention.

I have precisely 1 person on my ignore list, and it is because they have never said even 1 semi-interesting thing and it saves scrolling past their posts.

I don't care if people are rude, ignorant, etc. and as long as you occasionally say something of some value then that's enough.

I'm on a few people's ignore lists though, which is a shame for them as they miss out on my wit and insight which are things most of them sorely lack :p

My favourite are the people who are rude to you, then when you respond in kind get all precious and proudly announce they will put you on ignore because you were mean to them :D

I have a few dozen on ignore because I find them to be insufferable, (their posts) disturbing, rude, trolls, bullies, etc. Some of them are just severely mentally ill and it's not possible to have a discussion with them, so it's not always their character. It depends on the individual. Sometimes I take people off ignore after a while and either keep them off or throw them back on later on. Sometimes I tell them and sometimes I don't. They can figure it out. If you keep replying to me and I never reply back over a period of weeks or months, that should tell you something. Also, sometimes you're told to ignore people by staff because of too much fighting. I've had feuds on here.

I don't have anyone on ignore. If I feel like it's gotten to that point, then I take a break from posting for a while.

As for the one person you have on ignore, I haven't noticed that poster here in quite some time.

I have 4 people on my ignore list. There are other's I don't respond to (generally), and rarely bother reading. The 4 are there for one reason and one reason only -- they dogmatically refuse to accept reason, and I can't think without using it. There are many on the forum who disagree with my reasoning (or rather, my conclusions based on my reasoning), but at least they follow my reasoning and try to respond in kind. That is enough for me to engage.

There are a couple of gibberish spammers here. I've been tempted to ignore them, but I just scroll past their posts.

I would only put people on ignore if they intentionally provoked me for no good reason and after being told to stop it.

If they simply have different views or opinions than me, regardless of how extreme they might be, then I wouldn't put them on ignore.

Also, have no one on my ignore list.

I currently have about 30 people on Ignore. These are all people who I have found annoying, idiotic, barking mad, or some linear combination of the three. I find it is better for my equanimity not to read too many silly or perverse opinions. Doing that makes me impatient, bad-tempered and misanthropic.

(I did have double that number on Ignore, but by doing a clear-up of the list yesterday, I found that half have either been banned, had their accounts closed or no longer post here.)

I can only remember ever putting two people on my ignore list: One for being despicable (defending marital rape). Another for being an ontological idealist that shared no common ground with me in any subject.

You wouldn't even be on my top 100 candidates for being on my ignore list, Xavier. I have ignored folks on other forums because I thought they were trolls (or insincere in some fashion). But I've never seen anything from you that qualified as ignore-worthy.

But people have the right to ignore whomever they wish (in RL as well as on RF).

What I find telling is that the person went out of their way to tell you that they put you on ignore. That makes me think they wanted you to "feel" ignored by them. IMO, that's bull****. If they wanted to ignore you, they would have just put you on ignore and been done with it. The fact that they went out of their way to tell you means that they have a desire to interact with you (and maybe in an unhealthy, interpersonally destructive manner.

Do yourself a favor and ignore them. You could put them on ignore, or you could do it the old fashioned way and just not pay any attention to what they say. Either way works.

Even if such a person is mistaken in all regards, I'd never suggest ignoring someone because of a philosophical difference. If your ideas are correct, wouldn't you want to prove how correct they are by exposing them to every contrary argument imaginable?

I suppose it's polite to add I've got little patience for naysayers and joykills anymore. I'm pretty much done even engaging with it. Touched on that a bit here - https://www.religiousforums.com/threads/musings-of-a-tree-hugging-dirt-worshipper.269114/- and might write about it more at some point if the muse strikes. A lot of folks have too many needless distractions and negativity in their lives, with "social media" being a major, major culprit of that. It is very, very important to be-in-the-now and with yourself, being you, and being 110% okay with being the awesome you that you are.
