Why your religion?

Ok guys. I'm trying to get some info from all different sides about why people say their religion is correct. Just write why you think your religion is the way to go.

Why my religion? How can I answer this without breaking forum rules?

I love God. He is incredible. I want to grow closer to him. My church helps me to do that.

Well, I don't really have a religion. I have a worldview. Not sure if you want to hear from me, but here it is anyway:

I'm an atheist. By that I mean that I do not assert the existence of a God. The reasons I think I am correct are:
  • There is no evidence whatsoever for the existence of the supernatural.
  • Claims made by religious groups routinely create logical impossibilities.
  • Belief in the supernatural is/has been the cause of much human suffering in the world.

I like mine because it admits to more questions than answers. However, I'm not sure that it's the one true path for everyone, as there are a good number of people out there who crave the comfort of rock-solid certainty. As a UU, however, I see truth as something to be constantly questioned and explored.

How, specifically, does your church help you to grow closer to God? I guess the reason I made this thread is to find our why people think their religion/belief is the real deal. Why is yours legit?

What about miraculous healings and the such? What about the world itself and the complexity of it?

Friend Jesusoneway,
Welcome to RF.
Religion is only a way or a path and personally follow no set path which is also a way.
When we meet on the way, we share by being one; if not we are one in spirit, always.

haha I feel you on the questions thing. Christianity has a lot of answers, but it also leaves a lot of room for the sovreignty of God and how unfathomable he is! There are still a lot of questions, but we have all the answers that we absolutely need. Praise God! but anyway...don't universalists believe that there are many ways to God?

If we are going by actual Biblical teaching I believe my religion is closer to the teaching of the Bible than most others. I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same about their particular belief.....I'm just satisfied with what I believe and along with personal experience I just feel in my heart that I am in the right religion.....;)

No such thing as correct. Rain falls where it falls. ;)

The answer for the vast majority of people: because they were born into and indoctrinated into their faith as children.

You're thinking of classic Universalism, which is a heresy to mainstream Christians in that it posits an all-loving God being unwilling to condemn his followers to everlasting torment. However, there was a huge non-theist influx into our church in the 20th century, meaning that many UUs simply don't believe in any sort of deity.
