The thing about science is that it is testable. It's the purpose of peer review and repeatability that keeps knowledge in check. Gods are absolute, and unless a God-like process is shown to be consistent then scientists will never be considered Gods. Merely extant observers.idav said:

The bible has that type of mindset where God tries to hold us back. First the tree of knowledge then the tower of Babel. Humans have always been on a quest for immortality so you have resurrection. All attempts to be as a god.Science is building a modern tower of Babel and it'll be this century that decides whether we're destined to ascend to the heavens and become gods, or whether the tower falls back upon us and scatters our civilization. I'm optimistic it'll turn out better than the story in the Bible. Zeus and the Olympians overthrew Cronus and the Titans...its only fitting that mankind should overthrow Zeus.
I watched those they are very interesting. That sure gets us closer to god status.

Depends on how full our pocketbooks are. That is if the economy doesn't crash trying to reach the highest technologies.
Our government is likely 30 years ahead of our general knowledge. Science is designed to keep everything as true as possible but knowledge is limitless and possibilities endless.

Godlike things require an open inner eye. Scientists lack that so they will never be gods. But their puffed-up arrogance will make a good snack for God someday. The trickster-like aspect of God is and will get a lot of amusement out of the fools.

This is assuming scientists can't be religious. Maybe they need the inner eye thing in order to be successful. Maybe Einstein had pried his third eye open.
It was thought that men could not do god-like things but science is giving us this very power to manipulate and create. Mapping it out isn't easy but the knowledge and possibilities brought by Scientists are growing exponentially.

That is just the begining of what will be possible.
There is also a unified theory if they get there, which would open up a lot of possiblities.
However, we look at it from where were at now. Imagine people 2000 years ago looking at the space shuttles? or going to the moon. They would think we were gods.
But again almost everything "big" before us has gone extint and there is a lesson in there on that aspect.

I have a vision of the future where computer hackers will fight wars over vast neural networks in order to control all the information. And once they gain control they will set themselves up as virtual gods.
In the future you will be able to download your consciousness into a virtual body giving you virtual immortality and these "gods" will control who gets to be immortal

Thats assuming that consciousness is akin to a program or software application. There comes a point where science will make humans so powerful that we may be thought of as gods. I mean, even someone from a few hundred years ago would be overwhelmed by our modern technological marvels.
Perhaps if technology manages to survive. Information is definitely of value as we see with google and facebook.
If technology goes down then our science will end up in the mythology section.
