Will There Be War Or Peace?

This thread isn’t about finding alternative forms of energy. Let’s assume that there will be no alternative forms of energy. Humor me for a minute. In your learned opinion, will the superpowers of the world go to war over the last of our oil supply when the time comes or will everybody in the world share the rest of it peacefully until it’s gone?

It Aint Necessarily So

People don't share fossil fuels. They sell them. As they become scarcer and less accessible, alternate forms of power will become more prevalent, but you asked to imagine that that didn't happen. If not, yes, there'd be war. Isn't that why the Japanese entered WWII?:

"Japan's expansion into China (notably with the invasion of Manchuria in 1931 and subsequent aggression in the Second Sino-Japanese War starting in 1937) alarmed Western nations. In response to Japanese aggression, the United States and other countries imposed economic sanctions and trade embargoes, particularly targeting oil supplies. These actions heightened tensions and pushed Japan towards military action."

War? Dang, that sucks.

Thanks to Trump, there will be peace.

The EU will be ready to cooperate with America for the peace-keeping and the peace-making process and all ongoing wars will be terminated.

In this multipolar and hyper-globalized world, Europe sides firmly with the United States in the difficult task to promote peace and stability.

I am getting pretty old, but I am fairly confident that we will soon have (controlled) fusion. As to your question, yes. There will be wars over water too.

The temperatures and pressures required to even start the fusion is so high that no known material know to man can withstand it. And the amount of energy that is produced in the fusion is too high for anything we know how to safely transport away.

I feel your optimism but fusion looks like a pipe dream.

The difference here is that I have being keeping up to date on the latest fusion research. You are talking like you are living in the 1990s.

None that I know of. That is why researchers are using magntic fields for containment.

While high-temperature superconducting magnets are promising, maintaining their performance and preventing overheating remains a critical area of research.

Like I said which material can withstand fusion?

I already answered that question.

I am not claiming that we are there yet, but just that we are getting closer and the current approach is very promising - and I would bet will pay off.

This doesn’t sound promising.
