Will there ever be just the one religion - as there is only the one God!?

Can this be true? Can one day the world find peace with one another and remember the heritage God created for us. When he recreated the world with Noah and the floods and Noah's sons went onto create the diversity of nationalities and save us from the path we were taking? Can we one day walk as one as we were meant to?

I ask this question not to discriminate against any religion, but to pose the question of unity in order to create a more peaceful place to live and to prompt others to think about the creation of the world we live in and the vastness of its beauty and really what God's intentions would have been?

If so, better start making less children then as this world was not build to hold so many of us in the first place :p

Personally I love the fact that there is not one religion but several. Keeps thinking/questions going..

Also boils hatred and hurt. Causes hunger and famine. Teaches children to hate, when they really have no understanding of why?

ignorance.. Do you really think that one world religion would solve that problem?

People fight when groups emerge. It doesn't matter what kinds of groups, religion, music, sports, countries..Add greed to any of these groups and you got war..

well, modern day Pagans are a hell of a lot more peaceful than the Christian right who cause a lot of hurt and pain for many people - i think you're right. God wants peace, and Paganism is the way forwards.

I imagine it would be possible for a religion to be able to integrate diverse perspectives & beliefs into a massive coherent whole. In fact there are already religious movements that are attempting to do this, unsuccessfully for the most part.

I can't imagine such a religion ever being the only religion though, nor it being capable of existing within a society that wasn't already or simultaneously incredibly healthy & well integrated. Having said that a Taoist view might be that we already do live in a vast, beautiful and perfectly integrated universe despite our woes - we simply need to realise it for our lives to reflect it.

Wow. If for nothing else I love Taoism for its poetry.

There will always be religion of some sort. Sports are a kind of religion to many people. Other things become religions for some people. For instance, people here in Baltimore raise their children to be Ravens fans. Why? Because it's the home team. Why is my team better than your team? Because it's my team! We are expected to support the home team without question, and put our hopes and dreams into it.

What I'm trying to say is that even without the traditional religions, people will find other ways to be religious with other things.

I actually think paganism fits quite well with Christianity. I was reading how St.Columba referred to Christ as his druid. Just a thought.

If the division caused by everyone holding tightly onto their own religions causes so much trouble, maybe you should should start by loosening your grip on yours. It might be good to keep in mind that there are a great many people in the world who believe in other religions, including ones whose beliefs conflict with those of your faith, just as deeply as you believe in yours.

My intuition says that if every religion hunkers down where they are, refuses to give up anything in their version of what is "right" and waits for everyone else to come to them, that one religion you speak of will never happen.

I am sorry to say that you may be right there.......

As far as the topic itself is concerned, it is coincidental that, as I walked past a Church of England church this morning, I saw a notice that said "One Jesus, One church"......and thought how Church of England Christians recite the Apostle's creed which includes the "I believe in the holy catholic church"......

I know that the above use of catholic means "Universal",but seeing as the C of E was the Roman Catholic church until Henry VIII created our own version (to allow him to divorce)...........

One church ?:p

Seriously, I believe that we all do believe in the same God - as defined by our differring cultures.....would it not be wonderful if we could all aim for the same thing, without silly "in fighting " ?

Obviously your intuition is way off! I don't belong to a specific religion at all. My suggestions are based on historical eveidence and gather from the teachings of many religions suggesting kindness and loving fellow man. What a way to live!

In a matter of speaking, yes we will unite under one belief. This religion is called "life," and it involves the peaceful coexistence with every living creature on earth. People will soon realize how easy it is to love each other. We'll even have a slogan... "LIFE: No More, No Less"

never in a million years, not if your god has anything to do with it ,he is hardly a unifying influence now is he

According to the World Christian Encyclopedia (year 2000 version), global Christianity had 33,820 denominations with 3,445,000 congregations/churches composed of 1,888 million affiliated Christians

Some of the small but religiously important groups are the Druze, the Dervishes, and Ismaili islam.

There are also several somewhat important sects and movements, such as Wahabiism, Moorish Science, Nation of Islam, and the Qua'ranists.

There are only two (2) churches right now.

They are fighting.

One (1) will win.
