I'm going to be gone a few hours (*gasp!* I'll have to leave the forums! *sobs*). I recently got a job as a cashier at a local crafting store. (Okay, it's really a nation-wide crafting store, but this happens to be a local spot, hehee.) This'll be my first time in customer-service where I actually get to meet the customer face-to-face. I'm kinda worried I'll mess up horribly and they'll have to take me out back and tar and feather me. (And they've got easy access to those things, too!)

Good luck, Feathers! If any of the customers are rude to you we'll tar and feather them! :D I'm sure you'll do great.

Jewscout took the words right out of my mouth; just be yourself, Feathers, and you will dazzle them with your innate kindness. Enjoy yourself - at least you'll get to meet al sorts of people - believe me, some jobs can be BOoooring...:D

I can't imagine you doing anything but knocking their socks off with kindness. Just think of all the socks you are going to sell! :D

Feathers you are silly!! You are a people person!! Just don't mention the spots you see on people shirts. I did that once and they got angry. Actually my main concern is that you will spend your entire paycheck each week in the store buying art supplies.

*huge hugs to everyone* Durnnit, you guys keep being so kind and wonderful, and I can't repay you love and frubals! (Rob, you know me too well! I'll have to sit quietly in the basement when the check comes! *grin*)

I loved today! It was so much fun. (Okay, so there were a few rude individuals... Is it wrong to do my 'cheshire cat/ fox' grin at them when they're being mean? It tends to unnerve people and I'm not sure if they'd feel comfortable reporting to a higher up because of this- "She was smiling at me!" As was stated in another thread, you can get rude people anywhere, though. I just need to toughen up my skin, hehee!)

NetDoc, I am saddened to report that no socks were sold today. I did sell my first headwear for poultry, though. (Someone was buying a teddy-bear hat for the chicken that's apparently his team mascot.) I'm not sure if I could be any prouder that, because it was a female chicken, I suggested silver sequins, and the man looked up at me and said (as if I were imparting a profound religious insight) "That's a great idea." Somewhere, a female chicken will have her cowboy hat decorated with sequins tonight by a man in a football jersey because of my incredible aethetic taste when it comes to what I think poultry should wear.

I'm not sure if winning the Nobel prize might feel better, but if it does, it can't be by much!

Don't forget to constantly remind them you have been through your evaluation period when it ends, and you want your eval raise.

Is it wrong to do my 'cheshire cat/ fox' grin at them when they're being mean?
Smiling all the time is one of the best things you can do when your in customer service. Even if you have to fake, most managers will stay off your case if you always at least grin.
Im sure you'll do great. It will get much easier and everything will feel more comfortable once you know everything good enough.

Congrats on the new job, and I'm glad you like it! :bounce I'd love to work in a craft shop...I'd be forever poor, but I'd always have something to do with my time off lol.

Sadly, I must spread the love before I can frubal you for silver sequins. :p You could start your own line: Poultry Designs by Feathers - Accessories for your Feathered Friends.

Customer service is easy, just remember your Ps & Qs, I've been working in retail for 3 years, it's easy to learn, you'll be fine. & remember, the customer is always right, as long as the manager agrees.
