Woman fatally shot for displaying pride flag.

Paywall, but from what I read, the store owner sounded like a strong, courageous person. I couldn't get to the details but I suspect the gunman had neither of those qualities.

THIS IS THE REASON LGBTQ+ FOLKS HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE PROUD!

The poor lady certainly did not deserve to be killed. The killer had no right to take her life and is now dead too.
I personally cannot stand "pride" flags, but it would never occur to me to get in someone's face over them.

Personally, I'd treat this as the aberration it is. It made the news because it was so out of the ordinary.

You don't suppose that the flames of hatred and intolerance may have been stoked lately?

No doubt, we should put a pride flag under every rock.
I don't get it, other than it's snark.

There has been an upswing in hostility toward LGBT people in recent years. This is an objective fact. Why be dismissive of it rather than consider the cause?

Sorry. Not buying into it. I simply don't trust a thing coming from GLAAD, for example.

"The attack comes as LGBTQ+ people and their supporters have faced threats and acts of violence alongside “an unprecedented wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in 2023,” according to the Human Rights Campaign.

“LGBTQ+ Americans are living in a state of emergency. The multiplying threats facing millions in our community are not just perceived – they are real, tangible and dangerous,” the group’s president, Kelley Robinson, said in June when it declared a national state of emergency for the community."
