Women Only Ride Service....Discrimination?

News from The Associated Press
BOSTON (AP) -- An Uber-like service connecting female riders and drivers is launching in Boston following a rebranding and leadership change.
Safr says it will start its service next week on an invite-only basis. It plans to open to the wider Boston-area public starting March 1.
The company attracted attention last spring when founder Michael Pelletz announced its launch as Chariot for Women. The former Uber driver has since transferred management of the company to other executives.
The concept, which is also being developed by a New York City-based company, has faced questions about whether it runs afoul of anti-discrimination laws.
Things which are blatantly illegal are sometimes tolerated.
Is the desire of women to avoid men something so useful that laws should be flouted or changed?

If they would offer the same service to men. Connecting men drives to other men, I think they would alright.

*** Wait, that could be too close to separate but equal...

If I employed even such segregation lite (separate but equal) in my
business, I'd be prosecuted toot sweet by my city, state, & the fed.

I wouldn't mind it if they allowed men only ride service. But of course that would be sexist and misogynistic.

Nah, it's probably some devious democrat plot. Get people against women only cars, and somehow through twisted reasoning, they will say, the letter of the law prohibits women only bathrooms. Don't take the bait.

I'd rather existing services had a preferred driver option. It's still perpetuating the faulty system of 'men will do something bad when in control' or 'segregate percieved problem demographic instead of put better safety in measures for all passengers' but at least it's within more acceptable limits. Like a preferred doctor.

Though I find that a shame too. If you're a guy and you refuse to see a guy massage therapist or PT, it wouldn't be unreasonable to wonder if there's some unearned expectations of sexual misconduct (and latent homophobia). It's no better when women do it.

Do you see how protesting women only cars could weave it's way into protesting women only bathrooms?

Homophobia is as healthy as fear of burning yourself on a hot stove. No, guys do not give guys massages, ever.

Not practically, no. Though I have no problems with all sex bathrooms.

Homophobia is as healthy as fear of burning yourself on a hot stove.
I'm sorry for you that you feel that way.

No, guys do not give guys massages, ever.
As someone who works in a clinic with male licensed massage therapists who work on male clients frequently I beg to differ.

Messages like this, where someone is trying desperately to reinforce their masculinity as much as possible, makes me wonder if they're deep enough into the closet that they could work as an emissary between our world and Narnia.

I would have found this ridiculous a couple of years ago, but being educated on how weak and intimated women are in the face of scary and barbaric men are in recent times, I think this a good thing. We need to ensure that women never need to be faced with the possibility of ever interacting with vile and disgusting men. We can't expect strong, independent women to have to be comfortable interacting with violent rapists. Especially, if they're white men - the worst kind. But really any monster that has the audacity to have a penis.
