Would it be a sin to give an orthodox icon to a catholic boy?

I'm orthodox and he's roman catholic

There isn't much difference between us, but we still are of different religions
Since his Easter is quicky approaching (unlike mine.... :sarcastic)
I thought that giving him an icon would be a nice gift.

Should I do it, or would it be a sin for him?

And what about me and a rosary? Would it be a sin for me to have a rosary (a catholic item, orthodox don't use them)

thanks in advance for all the help

Catholics accept icons, so there's no reason you shouldn't give him one. I'd get him a nice icon of the Savior or the Mother of God or his patron saint; I wouldn't get him one of a post-schism saint.

As for the rosary, if he gives you one, you should accept it graciously and keep it in a place of honor. You can always use it as a prayer rope. :)

They do? I thought the reason the two churches split from one another was because Catholics are not allowed to use icons.

Has this changed?
Not at all. Catholics are known more for statues, and the Orthodox for icons, but the theology behind the two is exactly the same, and there are icons like Our Lady of Czestochowa and Our Lady of Perpetual Help (known to the Orthodox as the Mother of God of the Passion) which are widely venerated among both Catholic and Orthodox Christians.

I think he should be fine with an Icon. In the RCC Statues are essentially three dimensional Icons.

I personally am an Anglican, and find beauty in the various Christian Traditions, and i feel we have a lot to learn from each other. Things like this should be encouraged :)

but I agree, you probably should not give him an icon of a more modern post schism saint. One of The Evangelists would be great i think! Or my personal favorite is Christ Pantokrator, I think its the first Icon anyone should own :)

Google "Monastery Icons." It's Catholic-driven. They include a lot of RC saints, as well as stuff like the Guadalupe. They are wonderful, and fairly inexpensive.

what are the differences between Orthodox Christians and Catholic Christians, is there any difference between teachings or basic doctrines. do Orthodox view Jesus as a God or son of God,
What version of the bible to the orthodox take oath by, I know the Roman Catholics they take oath by the New international Version
