Writings/Texts/Essays regarding the Temple of Set?

I am currently exploring the philosophy of Setianism but am finding it difficult to find legitimate, un-biased information. Besides the information on Xeper.org, are there any notable authors or Temple leaders who have produced literary works I could look into to better my knowledge of the Temple and what Setianism is all about? Perhaps even persons outside of the Temple who have studied its undertakings and philosophies, or even former members? Thank you in advance.

The Temple of Set is quite secretive in a way. Only members can officially get the texts, although you can find them online for very high prices according to Aquino. Anyways, we have at least a few very knowledgeable and dedicated Setians on here. I am sure they will answer what questions you have, just start some threads.

I found Don Webb's Uncle Setnakt's Essential Guide to the Left Hand Path very informative on the subject. I'm no expert, but it seemed to give quite an extensive overview of ToS philosophies and practices.

EDIT: Just realized I'm not supposed to give my opinion here because of the rules for this directory. My apologies, and I've deleted what I wrote.

If Setianism has fallen to that point, then that which made Setianism special is gone. Then it is exactly the kind of belief system it was not supposed to be.

In terms of authors, look into Dr. Michael A. Aquino, Stephen Edred Flowers, Don Webb, Michael Kelly (former member whose works are tied to his Setian experience), Nikolas and Zeena Schreck (former member whose ideas proved incompatible with the Temple of Set), Mark Luskin, etc. There is a lot of stuff around, you just have to know where to look.

concerning the Schrecks, their "Demons of the Flesh" (about LHP) is really good, at least the first part, giving a historic overview on the Eastern LHP. The refreshing thing is that this part is one of the works that don't stand in the Blavatsky-influenced line of misunderstandings on the LHP (unlike Crowley, Lavey and Aquino).

Documents released by The Temple of Set Inc. are listed in our public directory on Xeper.org | Home. All other documentation on Setian philosophy by individuals and non-Priesthood members of the ToS are subjective perspectives by those individuals and do not in any way constitute the official view of the Temple of Set.

Greetings Phate... sorry I missed your post on the original DIR forum. Even though I am currently a non-member of the Temple of Set (I do plan to rejoin in the near future) I do have six years experience as an Initiate of the Temple of Set and have been a student and practicioner of Setian philosophy and Magic ever since the year 1989 c.e. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have about Setian philosophy, and I will answer them to the best of my ability.

That depends on what you mean by "the philosophy of Setianism".

If you mean the philosophy as described by the Temple of Set, then what better place than the source? What criteria are you using to determine the legitimacy of the information you have found? What makes the information you have found biased or not?

What makes the information you have found biased or not?

Well, there's a little problem.. and please don't get me wrong before you react :)

What an organisation writes about itself only presents the view from the inside. Of course it is biased because those taking part in it share a certain view (or they wouldn't be members).

Consider e.g. Scientology. They present their stuff certainly not as something like brain washing and economic abuse of their members. But outsiders and "disgruntled ex-members" do.

Now, and that is why I asked you not to overreact, I don't claim that the TOS is something like Scientology - the economic part of the refutation is easily proved by the membership doesn't cost more than e.g. a chess club membership where nobody talks of amassing riches.

My point is just: the fact that material comes from within an organisation doesn't make it "objective". Though we might have long discussions about what "objective" shall mean, but i'll just leave it there (;

The question is of Setian Philosophy. If he's talking about that which comes from the Temple, then the material that originates from there is the material that is in question.

It is presented as is, but it is still written in such a way as to ask its reader to make their own judgements of its merit and usefulness, and indeed discussion and debate of it is encouraged.

It isn't treated as Gospel or Cannon, that'd be against the very idea of Xeper as that would necessitate the material to be considered static, which it is not.

A glance over at KHPR will reveal a few ways that some of the Temple's initiates have interpreted Setian Philosophy and applied it. There's no map or instructional guide to that end.

TLDR

Setian Philosophy from the Temple = as is
A person's interpretation of how to make use of and apply = subjective
