WTF with all these popups???

Newbie here......Is there a way to stop these popups? I only get them here. I even installed a new blocker after joining here, but it doesn't work on RF. Tell me you guys really don't live with these constant popups? I've never seen so many, they even block the writing space when ya try to post. I don't think I could deal with them.

Thanks in advance!

I imagine that the ad revenue pays for the expenses involved in maintaining a website. by using ad blockers, you contribute to the bandwidth expense without also contributing to the earnings to offset it.

Holy hell! That looks so sketchy, like a pop up on porn hub.

Unfortunately that ad is part of our deal with our ad network. If you can tell me more information, such as something more than the name of the browser, I can reach out and they can better optimize it so that it does not cover or show at certain resolutions.

So if the ad is covering the post area please give as much information on your computer or device setup. An example, using my computer, would be this:

Macbook Pro
MacOs
Screen Resolution: 1440x900
Google Chrome

I will suggest something like Google Ads, not too obtrusive. I do not think coercive policies will get you premium memberships. It may be counter-productive. I do love RF, and would like to contribute something.

That ad is more than likely from Google Ads. It is simply the position that it is presented that is causing issues. As far as counter-productive, this last January was broke not only traffic records but posting records for RF. We work actively to make sure that inappropriate ads are not displayed and we will work to fix an issue that is causing someone problems.

We also offer, for less than 4 dollars a month, a way to remove all advertisements. I believe that everything we are doing is fair and reasonable for the time and money it takes not only to keep Religious Forums accessible and your data secure but also to continue to invest in the community so that it continues to grow.

For me, this site and the rest of our communities at Whipp Media - Online Media Company is a full time job. I work more than 40 hours a week on this site and other communities that we run.

If people want to run ad blocks then I can't control that. I browse the sites with advertisements just like any other member without a premium account does. I feel if we ask you to view ads for our free service then I need to be able to enjoy the site and use it at that same level as well.

Just my view on it. :)

I don't feel secure enough to buy life membership so it's pop-ups for me! :)

But I don't mind them much. Anything that I am interested in can repeat itelf in RF advertising. I can even check gold prices on-the-spot without leaving RF, etc.

As long as I block-out Microsoft and Windows updating rubbish my laptop can work at reasonable speeds. :)

Just my view on it.

On android mobile phones the ad at the bottom of the screen is so large (about 20%) it interferes with scrolling motion, reading, covers commands, etc.

Every time you change to a new page it reappears (which on a forum is quite a lot), and it is difficult to close without accidentally opening up the advert. Were they time dependent rather than page refresh dependent it would be less of an issue.

You are left with the option of trying to close it multiple times a minute (and then closing the inevitable redirections to the advert) or a significantly reduced browsing experience.

I had to install an adblocker on my PC (which I don't really want to do) because I find the adverts insufferably intrusive to the point I didn't want to use the site. I've not found an effective way to block them on my mobile and as a result I spend much less time than before on the mobile site.

I don't have a problem with adverts, just these adverts. The old adverts were fine, visible but unobtrusive. Honestly, RF is probably the only 'non-dodgy' site I can think of the the (non-video) adverts cause me any annoyance.

While some people don't seem that bothered, there are others who are genuinely being driven away from the site or at least being significantly annoyed by it. Almost all other sites manage to find a much better balance, including RF until recently.

I have passed this along to see what we can do to minimize this for mobile users.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Those pop ups can scare new comers away from this forum.
That's my take. My biggest gripe wouldn't be the ads necessarily. It's really all the lag it causes. Nobody new or even those participating is going to want to bother with lag issues and simply move on to forums that don't have those issues cropping up.

True and it does cause lag.

Just to let you know, that the sticky footer advertisement will soon not show to any member with more than 10 posts.

If you can give us a screenshot and/or ad url of the offenders we can block them.

FYI, I browse the site the same way any non supporter does. I do not run into pop up issues.

On my tablet, lap top, and phone there are pop ups. They cover the screen and half the text box. Sometimes I accidently click an add and two more would pop up.

Pop up blockers help but I shouldnt have to cut it off for some sites and on for others. Its hard to take a picture of the phone but regardless, people are using pop up blockers not because it was originally there and we want to use the site but we want to continue to use the site without being prompted and tagges for membership fees.

Unless RF has other things to offer, many people are leaving by force or just going because of everything gone new.

Pop ups are annoying but when they intefere with the function of using the site rather than inconvinence of a site temporarly, people drop.

You should not be seeing an pop ups. Like I said, I need screenshots in order to see what you are seeing so I can forward it to our ad developer and they can fix it.

Ill try. Im always on my mobile and out the house so I cant a picture of my mobile with my mobile. On the lap top its not a big deal since the only ads the are between the posts.

But I do agree with the premium comments. Are there other incentives to having a premimum other than no ads and subscriptions?
