WWJD: could society function?

Ha, the old Venezuela line again; the right wing never compare to the Scandinavian countries or New Zealand; they just keep bringing up Fox's bogey man.

Read/watch another source of news.

We are getting off topic awfully fast - you could mention Australia in that socialist paradise - only
Aussies, Kiwis and Scandinavians all live in Capitalist societies with a few socialist programs.
A wholly socialist nation cannot afford to provide for its poor like a Capitalist one can.

ps We don't have a fox news here in Aust..

Nowhere is a socialist paradise, but to keep quoting Venezuela is ridiculous; most socialist states condemn it.
I think you are mixing socialism with communism; socialism works with capitalism in the countries I mentioned.

You may not have Fox down under ... but remind me, where was Murdoch born?

Murdoch? You mean the media magnate? He's worth about $4bn, I think Musk 'earned' twice
that amount in a single day a few weeks ago.
Socialists can have their own newspapers - but the trick is, you have to run them as a business
as socialists are not business people.

OK, you win,- no wonder Bill Gates is such a bad businessman

Methinks Gates isn't that smart. He was quick in getting IBM to sign up to a program
he had borrowed called DOS. And then used that to create a monopoly. I think Musk
is a smart businessman, so too for Bezos.
The Left generally don't own media, they seek to control it.

So with all 'Christian' nations pacifist, what would you do if the Soviet Union
or the Muslim nations attacked?
Pacifism is fine in theory, but only if your opponent is also a pacifist, otherwise
he owns your country, and you.

As a Christians I desire non-Christians become peace-loving too.
What did Jesus say? My kingdom is not of this world.

Yes and no. There would no conflict, but there would no light bulbs either.

No light bulbs? I believe we would be so advanced that we would be populating the stars. The money saved from wars alone would cure poverty, clean up the environment, provide free Medicare and education worldwide. But instead of handing over our lives to Christ, we handed it over to corrupt politicians snd religious leaders who have done nothing but fill their own coffers at our expense.

We are now learning the hard way that turning our backs on God only ever brought us misery. Just my opinion.

Politicians generally are not 'corrupt'
The same with religious leaders.
Defense budgets in most Western nations are less than 2% of their Gross Domestic Product.
Yes, a true Christian world, as practiced by the Apostolic Church, would be a lovely place, but
there's no science - the sun rises in the east, goes to the west and hastens back to where it
began, as the Pope reminded Galileo.

ps that Galileo thing was a beat up - his crime wasn't science as the Pope promoted science
and showcased Galileo's work to the world - Galileo's crime was offending the Pope himself.

So what do you do when you have a pacifist nation and you are
about to be overrun by the Mongols or the Muslims? Fight or
submit?
""Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's""
"“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends”"

Okay, so you submit to your new overlords. If it's the Mongols they might let
you live if you submit early enough. If it's Muslims they will convert your churches
into mosques, and you will pay an infidel tax.

The hell I do.
Jesus had no problem with self defense.
Any action against an invader is self defense.

He was convicted of suspected heresy for telling the truth. It took 300 years for the church to admit he was right.

As always the truth is complicated. The Catholic Church took Galileo's telescope
and teachings to China. Ostensibly the church objected to Galileo's teachings on
the heliocentric world (not the theory but how Galileo claimed he had proven it,
which he hadn't.) But Galileo had written a book which mocked the Pope, a man
who was once Galileo's friend. The Pope was called 'Simplicio' in the book - the
simpleton. So it was personal. And the Pope had sponsored Galileo's work.

You don't need to be a Christian or other believer to be a decent person. In fact, in many places it is the religious right that prevents social programs and the progressives are pretty secular.

If everyone lived their lives according to "what would Jesus do" could society function, or would it collapse?

Personally, I think it would improve but perhaps I'm being naive?

No prisons? No locks on doors? No adultery or divorce or STDs? Etc.?

Society wouldn't collapse it would be . . . Heaven.

Per the Bible, those who trust in Jesus will be made morally perfect when Jesus returns, able to live EXACTLY in this manner.

"WWJD" means "doing what is righteous/not sinning".

So if this was Britain 1939 would you have declared war on Germany for invading Poland?
Would you support Britain's war effort, or seek to stop it?
Would you invite Hitler's overtures of peace?
Would you have handed Britain's Jews over to Hitler, for the sake of peace?

Definition of pacifism

1: opposition to war or violence as a means of settling disputes specifically: refusal to bear arms on moral or religious grounds //For Quakers pacifism is a major tenet of belief.
