I was gonna frubal you for that Halle Berry comment, but now I'm glad I didn't! You're hatred towards the Cajun has me totally offended and baffled.

I always read the credits. Tell those people you'll meet them outside.

It wasn't people I went to the movie with who ushered me out - I went to the movie on my own (as I almost always do). But I was sitting on the end of an aisle, and when I stood up to let the other people in the row out, they pushed me into the stampede for the door and it was a case of go with the flow or be trampled. Normally I'd stay and read the credits...and I was mightily pissed off when I realised what I'd missed.

nah, i've been an x-men fan most of my life. the dark phoenix saga really was my introduction to the x-men, and i hold the john byrne period to be the 'créme de la créme' of x-men comics, if not superhero comics as a whole.

it's not the comic, but it's great in it's own way. the most notable drawbacks of all these movies is

1) halle berry
2) halle berry
3) halle berry.
4) halle berry

not only is storm in her version portrayed as a terribly mundane woman, but every time she uses here powers it takes like 3 minutes for her to even get her eyes white.

dark phoenix just wasn't dark phoenix either. i appreciate the fact that they spliced together about 4 storylines to make the script, but still - they could at least have done the phoenix effect.
12 years ago, Grace Jones should have played Storm and Sting should have played Pyro.

my partner actually suggested grace jones on the way out of the theatre. yeah, that'd be a good choice. perhaps she'd make a good mystique also.

which brings me to mystique.
  • she's not a lesbian anymore. she's mangeto's lover?!
  • she looks stupid.
  • she needs some proper clothes already.
sorry if i'm a bit negative here, my inner nerd needs venting. :D

Vent all you like, as far as I can tell the only 3 people who do their characters justice are Famke Jannsen (or whatever her name is) Hugh Jackman and Anna Pacquin (cos she's a kiwi... or she used to be... damn she got hot too!)

(that's Jean Grey Wolvie and Rogue just in case)

i think scott's pretty OK. stiff and grumpy, but still clearly a 'good guy'. perhaps a bit too un-leader-like, though - the comic cyclops was all teamleader. the movie dude doesn't give me that feeling of control i think cyke had in the comic. beast was OK. nightcrawler's german accent is a bit overdone. oh, well. i could pick faults with any character and any scene:) - still, as a whole, i'm mostly satisfied.

EDIT : as long as they keep gambit, bishop and all the other modern new-fangled atrocities out, that is.

It was a totally fantastic movie if you've never read an X-Men comic in your life.

Sorry, I really just have nothing good to say about this one.
I've heard this comment more than a few times.

One of the friends with whom we saw it has read EVERY X-Men comic book. He had been talking about seeing it opening weekend for several months. In fact, more than once when we were hanging out, that was ALL he talked about.:p

He was thoroughly disappointed with the movie, and that's part of the reason he literally ran out of the theatre when it was over. He said that it seemed like the script was written by someone who had been told about the comics but never actually read them.:banghead3

I've never read them, but just from seeing the first two movies and getting into the story, I understand what he meant.

Gambit, technically speaking, isn't a mutant anyway.

And, I happen to love the Phoenix Saga and the Dark Phoenix Saga too. But, they ruined it. Completely. And that's not cool.

LOL I know how you feel. I have a huge rant about this movie bubbling inside.

And, I'm also somewhat upset about the Nightcrawler thing. Did you know they cut him because Halle Berry wanted a bigger part in the movie? And, in the second movie they didn't even touch on the fact that Mystique is Nightcrawler's mother.

And yes, she does need some clothes. I like Rebecca Romjin just as much as everyone else, but please....

Well, that I would have to disagree with. I've always hated Cyclops with a passion. I have things to say about him that would be inappropriate for the word filter =)

And DEAR GOD yes, NO BISHOP. Ever!. >.<

cyke in the movie, or overall? he used to be my favourite character - but then again, a had thick glasses as a kid, so i was a bit biased. :)

No I never liked him at all. I've always rocked the Jean-Logan thing. =)

He was much more of a wimp in the movies though.

it's hinted at in one scene, at least i interpreted that scene that way. but mystique looks muh younger in the comic, perhaps it'd be difficult to pull offin the movies when they look like they're the same age.

anyway, now we'll never know, since any further investigation of the subject was obviously thwarted by that woman.

Yep. I feel bad for Alam Cumming. He is so awesome.

You'll have to cut him a little slack with the german accent though....Alan, when he speaks normally, has a very very heavy scottish accent. It's cute really.

I've heard him do other accents before, and he did ok (for example, a Brit accent in that Jane Austen movie (was it Emma?), and a Russian accent in the Bond movie (names are escaping me today, sorry)). I have a feeling he may have been told to lay the German one on thick. I've certainly heard a lot worse from other people.
