X-Men, Superman, or Pirates

X-Men was not the summer blockbuster it was supposed to be.

Pirates-I don't trust any movie that is made from an amusement ride.

Superman- DC Comics is no balls and two strikes with two outs at the top of the millenium. Here's hoping someone makes a decent Superman movie before I die.

Well, I got back about half an hour ago from seeing Superman. As much as Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane annoyed me (she was far too meek), I'd still rank this one above X-Men 3. I reckon Brandon Routh was channeling Christopher Reeve. :areyoucra It was uncanny. Mum warned me I'd need to take some tissues with me, but I didn't need them (which is quite uncommon for me, since I cry at the drop of a hat - perhaps the pressing need for the movie to end so I could go to the loo short-circuted my tear ducts  ). Another thing which lessened my enjoyment of the movie was the casting of Ian Roberts as one of Lex Luthor's thugs. For those who don't know, he's an Aussie ex-rugby player. All I could think while he was sinking his boots into Superman was "just who does this big gay footballer think he is?". :slap: The man can act as well as he can dance, I'm afraid.

I agree. Lois Lane was a dissappointment. I don't know if it was Kate Bosworth or the writing, but Lane came off too passive and meek, like you said. I remember Lane being this ball of energy and fire ready to lash out at anyone in her way.

Yeah. Personally, as a character she annoys the crap out of me, but I really hated this ***** incarnation of her.

Yes but it wasn’t my original choice to go see it. It is sort of my movie creed to give everything a fair shot even The Haunted Mansion. It was the poor qality of both these movies that I arrived to my distrust.

mrscardero cried 3 times and each time I kept looking over to her wondering why she was crying during this awful movie. When we got back in the car I gave her my one-word critique and she agreed that it was terrible but when I asked her if she was crying because it was awful, she said that she was crying because of our son Kal-El.

Pirates, definately.

Superman was really good too. But, don't waste your money on X-men - wait until that is playing on TV.

I loved Pirates!! Definatley a must see in Theatures!! X-men was also pretty cool but not as cool as Pirates and SuperMan hasn't come out in Israel yet so i don't know really?:pirate:

I had high expectations for the Pirates Of The Carribean. Johnny Depp is usually very good in most of the films he acts in and we haven't had a high sea adventure in movies in a long time. I was actually surprised to see a sequel to this film.

The original plan was to make 3. The third one is coming out next year.

See, I didn't have particularly high expectations, so maybe that's where you went wrong. ;) It was never meant to be a serious movie. Personally, I love Johnny's character, he's the highlight of the movie for me. I expect the second to be every bit as silly and piratey, which is exactly how I want it to be. :pirate: I'll probably go see it later in the week.

Out of the three movies of the original OP, it looks like Kevin Smith is going to have to deliver me my summer blocklbuster experience with CLERKS II.

Johnny Depp was very good in the Pirates movies as well. In fact, he received an Academy Award nomination for his role in the first.

Also, why were you surprised to see a sequel? The first one was the surprise hit of that summer and raked in tons of money for Disney.

Pirates was good...but sorry hon, x3 was much better...
as good as it was i found Pirates 2 lacking in the script dept. and rehashing alot of old jokes...tho they were funny.

I'm sorry, it's juat hard for me to imagine that anyone who really enjoyed the original comics could say that X3 was a good movie. *shrug*

Sorry Nutshell, didn't know you responded. Many of the people I spoke to about this movie when it first came out didn't really care for it, though I am recently seeing many of the people who did like it coming out in droves for the second. I am not a big fan of the Academy Award system but since Disney was releasing movies based on their amusement rides, I thought this was just a fad that they would put to rest. I will give Disney partial credit for resurrecting their live action movies. When I was a kid, Disney had a fantastic line-up of live action movies (Herbie The Love Bug, The Apple Dumpling Gand, The Shaggy D.A, That Darn Cat). Pirates comes very close to recapturing that Disney magic, but when they started their animation films (The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, Hercules) there wasn't many trademark Disney live-action movies to accompany it. Though I am still a fan of their animation productions I may have out-grown their live-action endeavors.
