Exactly my point earlier. It does not need to be politicized in a dishonest manner. People are being killed and nobody needs to stretch the truth about murder as this is the very reason why you have societal panics over things like gluten. The fact we have thousands if not millions of people afraid of bread protein is unthinkable to me.
I can't say the truth was stretched because it's a personal issue not a statistical one. Do you understand the intent behind the post, though?
I mean, not to be rude, but if you are part of African American Culture (I'm African American but raised "white" as so they say), and you exaggerated on a killing(s) that bothered you intensively, would it make sense for me to address what you exaggerated or the emotion or intent behind your comment itself?
Outside of that, it could have been exaggerated; that wasn't the point, though.
That is one thing but what sparked me was in the OP as it stated that : "A lot of juries let off people in this situation and have in the past."
Situation as in killing transgender (sorry, didn't want to read the article)?
If so, I never heard such a thing today but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case in the 50s and 60s. Most definitely the 40s. I actually remember when sodomy laws (which people didn't think had nothing to do with sexual orientation and gender identity) were taken off the books. It was 1961, they officially did in all states. Funny, I remember they talked about it in the late 80s since I wasn't born in the 60s.
And by getting off he meant sentence reduction. Getting 12 or more years in prison is not that much of a sentence reduction in some cases.
Unless it was his first offense, probably? I know my brother got off 30 days in jail for attempted shoplifting because it was his first offense and he didn't walk off the property. So he got one day instead.
A lot of factors could have played in.
