What is your opinion on Satan? If one reads the forums, seems like there is different opinions as to even the definition is correct, this thread is sort of to gauge the general opinions ideas.

I see Satan as a melange of other mythological figures, a composite created by the Church. He takes the form and the names of older gods - the body of Pan, the name of the morning star the bringer of light.

As I see it the concept was to invent a personification of anti-christhood and demonise and reduce other local deities at the same time.

Here is what the bible tells us about Satan:

Rev 12:7 And war broke out in heaven: Mi′cha·el and his angels battled with the dragon, and the dragon and its angels battled 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them any longer in heaven. 9 So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him

1 Peter 5:8 Keep your senses, be watchful! Your adversary, the Devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking to devour someone

2Cor 4:4 among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers,

1 John 5:19 We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one

The devil is real. He is a disobedient angel who opposes the Creator.

I believe that Satan is real and that he is a fallen angel and is evil. He also leads a ton of other fallen angels who are demons like he is now.

I have no use for the concepts of Satan, devils or evil. All have contributed greatly to the misunderstanding of the human psyche. In a literal sense, Satan is a fabrication and evil is value judgment and neither are particularly helpful in explaining the human condition.

The Bible exposes the devil as a real evil spirit creature, and the greatest enemy of God and man. Satan spoke to both Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ, both of whom are righteous and without sin. Theses encounters and many others recorded in the Bible clearly show Satan is a real person. (Job 1:6-12, Matthew 4:1-11) One of Satan's most successful ploys is to convince people he does not exist.

These people are bring our world a false light of illumination.

A metaphor for fallen man. The fallen angels from heaven resembles the fall of man from the garden. Unless we want to strip our free will completely and just say we are doing the will of god or the devil but never our own.

Our Dark Lord is one of the great literary figures.
He revolts against authority. He is demonized, &
yet he not only survives, he perseveres. He's not
some pasty faced human in white fluffy robes...he
has pointy horns, a snappy tail, a healthy rubicund
glow, & the most wicked of laughs.
Booowhahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahaahh, etc!

My opinion is that he is is pretty silly, if his myth were true.

All he has to do to avoid the second coming, the final apocalypse and his final punishment is to do the exact contrary of what it's written in the prophecy, if he can read as i would expect from an angel, fallen or not. Prophecies have the habit of not happening if what defines them does not take place.

Wait, maybe he is not so silly, and this why Jesus has not returned yet. Still on hold waiting for Satan to be ready to do what it is expected from him.

We might have to wait a long time if that is the case, I am afraid, lol.

When I was a Christian and believed in such things, I thought of Satan as a literal being. He was the fallen angel who led the failed rebellion against God, and continues to tempt and torment humans into turning away from God. He was also the ruler of Hell and the current ruler of the Earth.

As far as I knew, those in my religious community thought of him in the same manner.

I now do not believe in such beings. I don't really consider Satan at all anymore. He's not a metaphor to me, and when people talk about him, I'm probably most likely going to assume they are talking about a literal being like the one above.

I do wonder if I had stuck with religion if my beliefs about such things would have mellowed. I was very literal about everything. It's interesting to think that I could have eventually become a metaphorical person.
