Your RF Participation and People You Know

Not specifically. I have mentioned a few posts or shared some pictures with people I know when it is relevant to conversation, but nobody knows the name of this site or my username on it in particular.

If they did stumble on to this site, they would probably immediately identify me based on my writing style and the fact that I list my religion as "Stoicism."

I would rather that not happen. I enjoy the freedom to make intellectual mistakes and venture into controversial and taboo discussions on this forum. I don't need to be blacklisted from employment because I've blasphemed against the Bible or something, which has actually happened to people within my social circles.

If they did find my account, though, I would be honest about it being mine. I'm just not interested in intentionally rocking the boat.

I keep my RF participation strictly secret from everyone I know in person. I have safety-related reasons to keep it private, and I also consider it my virtual sanctuary where I can freely be myself without worrying about anything.

What about you? Do any of your family members or friends know that you're here or what you post?
I've tried to get some friends interested in RF, no success so far. My family either doesn't speak English or is not confident enough in their ability.

I discuss it with my wife and daughter sometimes but being a massive introvert on the rare occasions that I socialise there is other stuff to talk about and I'm usually checking my watch to see if it's too early to leave and not appear rude.

I've mentioned it once or twice, and my wife certainly knows. I ask her opinion on topics occasionally (mental health related usually).

She thinks the whole thing is weird, and suspects 50% of you are grooming me for nefarious purposes, which is kinda amusing.

Only 2 people know I post here - and that's because I met them through the forum. A few people know I am active on a number of science forums and one that straddles science and religion, but no one else knows my handle or which forums I frequent, as far as I am aware. Like you I think it's nice to have an area you can explore without having to take into account who you know that might read what you post. That would be quite constraining. But I make a point of using the same internet handle for all forums I visit. It's a way of showing I don't feel the need to hide my identity by pretending to be different people in different places.

All you need is love.
Except for my husband, my children, and a close friend and mentor, no one else who knows me personally is aware that I'm on RF. In fact, RF is the only forum and social media platform where I talk about and discuss paranormal-related topics. I'm in a few paranormal groups on Facebook, but I never talk about what I have experienced or what I believe about the afterlife or post anything about these topics on my profile. I don't post about these topics on my profile or in the groups because I don't have anonymity on Facebook.

My husband, children, and in-laws are the only members of my family who are aware of my mediumship and my experiences with the paranormal. Aside from them, a few of my close friends and a couple of mutual friends are aware, but they respect my privacy and haven't told anyone else. I've been asked if I'm a medium while investigating a location, and depending on the circumstances, I have acknowledged my abilities, but I don't share any personal information about myself other than my first name. And I didn't reveal any personal information about myself when I took part in a séance a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I didn't. It didn't turn out well for me.

RF has given me a unique platform to discuss my mediumship and paranormal experiences. I've never been on a forum like it or even on Facebook (or any other social media platform) where I felt free to discuss these topics without fear of being constantly slammed with malicious remarks that call my sanity into question or relentlessly lectured about believing in the paranormal. I sincerely value my anonymity on RF, and I'm grateful to be a part of this diverse and unique online community. RF has become my online sanctuary.

I'm not a social butterfly either. I have a close friend and mentor whom I regard as a sister, but aside from her, I have very few friends.
