Your Stance on death penalty?

I would never say that, everything is subject to rational inquiry.

Yet, you mark yourself as relentessly rational ;)

Do you have an example of something existing that is not subject to rational inquiry? Not even in principle?

Why would they be?
Why not?

Don't you ever argue about moral issues, like gay marriage, euthanasia, abortion, slavery and genocide in Holy Books, stem cell research and all? And if you do, do you use arguments that cannot be possibly rational? Are you content if someone simply says: this is my moral code, and that's it?

  • Gay marriage is becoming a non-issue.
  • Arguing about the legality of euthanasia won't change it.
  • Abortion is legal; my thoughts are my own and will not change anyone else's.
  • I don't care what the Holy Books say because they don't apply to me.
  • Stem cell research will go on, or it won't.
So what's to argue? Arguing won't change anything.

As long as their code doesn't infringe on mine. The SCOTUS has always interpreted the US Constitution with the test that my right to throw a punch stops before my fist hits your nose.

I support the death penalty 100%. I don't even care about the deterrent aspect. There will always be evil, cruel, vicious and demonic people. People should get what they deserve and the world is better off without evil people.

I've never been much of a fan of killing other human animals. Sue me.

Life imprisonment, in my view, is much worse than the death penalty.

That only works if the prison is a hellhole like in some South American dump, not if the "prison" is more like going on a vacation, like it is in some places in Northern Europe.

That's why I said that *EVERYTHING* is subject to rational inquiry. Everything. Without exception. I think you misread what I wrote.

Yep, and I think people given life sentences (in most cases,) should be able to apply for DEATH, to clear the prisons.

I don't think they should be given a choice, I think LWOP ought to just go away, if you're going into prison and never getting out, get on death row.

Oh I agree with you, and I think we should be expanding crimes that get you the death penalty. :D

I meant people already convicted and sentenced to Life in Prison, should be able to apply for DEATH, so we can clear the cells for more criminals.

I would have no problem with child molestation and rape being capital crimes.

I would be fine with that, although I doubt many would sign up. The whole reason the DP is so expensive is because these people don't want to die. They'd rather spend the rest of their life rotting in a cell than kick the bucket and get it over with. I find that a really good reason why we ought to just execute them, apparently they find life imprisonment less of a punishment than a needle in their arm.

I am opposed to society dictating punishments that can not even begin to be repaired when they are later to be shown erroneous.

I am mostly against the death penalty with an exception. I think that the death penalty may be the only solution for serial or repeat offenders of atrocious crimes like murder, rape, etc.

In principle, I don't have an objection to the death penalty for the most egregious of crimes. I'm talking mass or serial killings, terrorism and such. Those who injure society or disregard their fellow human beings in the most profound of ways surrender much of the moral consideration owed to them. In practice however, the US system seems more silly than it's actually worth .
