Your Top 3 Phobias

What are they? If you can, describe how they came about.

Here's my list:

1. Tsunamis
2. Anything overly large... like ships, sharks and whales... buildings are the only exception.
3. Dying

Not sure where the fear of tsunamis came about. When I just think about one in my mind, my heart starts beating. I'm actually terrified of my new Navy orders. I am going to Hawaii. I have a wicked fear that I will be engulfed in a huge tsunami during 2012. :cover: I know that Hawaii has big waves and that will probably make me too afraid to go to the beach. I do remember that when I was little, I went to the beach with my family. I was in the Ocean having a blast and next thing I remember I am whirling around under the water in a wave. It was so scary. Rather tramatizing.

The fear of things significantly larger than me is another mystery. I swear I would be so afraid of swimming next to a whale. LOL Call me crazy but I am serious. Navy ships creep me out too. I remember the first time I walked down the pier to go aboard my Husbands ship... I was terrified of the ships around me! They are huge! :areyoucra I even got slightly lightheaded!

The fear of dying is kind of a new one... Death is a complete mystery and it scares me so much. I am so terrified that I won't be able to experience anything after I die. I love life... I would hate to give it up. :(

But is did pluck up the courage to do a bungee jump about ten years ago and climb to the summit of Mt Agung in Bali this year. Scared the hell out of me looking down in the crater funnel though.

Heights are definitely scary but I do applaud you for trying something new despite your fear! I can't say I would EVER want to bungee jump....

Just flying insects that sting.

And Alice in Wonderland.

1. Flying. Actually, falling -- but I feel it most acutely on an airplane. Every time I get on a plane, I think, "I can't believe we're going to die just because we don't have time to drive to Miami." This is an especially hard one for somebody who likes to travel. My dream is to go to Shanghai via New York, London, Moscow, and Beijing, and never get on a plane. Trains and ships, baby, trains and ships.

2. Suffocating, which is closely related to:

3. Being trapped. I don't want to be anywhere I can't turn around; don't want to be anywhere I can't make a break for it. This one covers a lot of ground. I think spelunkers are borderline insane, and I envy people who live near the Canadian border. :)

Oh me too, I don't know how they do that. I don't mind exploring caves, but I'm not going to go through any cracks, and especially the insane angles and tightness that some of those spider monkeys can go through.

When you are old and tired; when bodily systems starts breaking down; when aches and pains grows worse - then dyin' doesn't seems so scary.

1. Not being successful soon enough.
2. Falling.
3. Getting fired.

Not afraid of death. It's not the end. Not afraid of disease. Not afraid of the dark. Not afraid of monsters. Not afraid my wife will die, or cheat on me. Not afraid of failure. Not afraid of gay people. Not afraid of aliens.

I really had a hard time thinking of 3.

Recently discovered I have a fear of flying.

I also have an irrational fear of falling over and having my eye gauged out by those wrought iron railings some people have outside their houses.

Butterflies disgust me, especially blues ones.

I don't have any big fears. I'm afraid of heights, but only when it's pretty high, and there's no real barrier between me and falling.

Other than that, mostly it's just fears about methods of dying. I would hate to be buried alive. IMO, one of the worst ways to die.

I just don't understand spelunkers. I guess their brains are just wired differently than mine, but you probably couldn't pay me enough to go most of the places they go. I'm not going to try to squeeze myself under some slab of rock 300 feet (or much more) underground. No way.

Yeah... true... physical pain isn't something I want to really endure but... life is still wonderful and despite that pain, I'd still want life... Many people come up with great reasons why you shouldn't be afraid of death but I still seem to be. I have so much going for me in my life right now, I would hate for it to end! For all I know, I could die tomorrow... or even in my sleep tonight... I don't want to die without accomplishing so much more in my life. The world has so much to offer!

1. Crowds

I'm really quite misanthropic and needed councelling to get me to go out and socialise when I was younger. While I'm fine to go out and live a normal life now (though I still take a long time to trust people and even longer before I'll display emotion in front of them), crowds of people still make me angry and anxious. It takes a lot of effort to not lash out if somebody walks into me.

2. Spiders

Okay I'm not actually arachnophobic. I'm fine to look at a spider and pick up smaller ones. I just don't like the way the bigger ones move and how if you pick them up, they run straight up your arm. I was never bothered by spiders until one actually fell off the ceiling and landed on my face as a child, I've never liked the big spiders since. Weirdly enough I'm fine with tarantulas, I think it's because they don't have the spindly legs of other spiders.

3. Old Houses

I have a love hate relationship with old fashioned buildings (Victorian era houses and the like) since I find them absolutely fascinating, but they also make me incredibly anxious. I don't know why they make me anxious, they just do.

Okay, so you're okay with the really little ones and you're okay with the monster size, like tarantulas. It's the middle-sized ones you don't like. Seriously, that's an interesting answer!
