YouTube Censoring

But censoring words like suicide, murder, abuse, rape, is just absurd. We are not 4. There is a dedicated kids' section on YT.
I totally agree with that. But I guess that YT hasn't made that all up. They also want to sell ads, it's also their business model.

YouTube has an absurd number of words creators can't use in their videos, apparently because the ad companies don't like them. I don't understand this though. How is one meant to make a documentary video about certain topics without using words like 'suicide' or 'rape'? If you're making a documentary about, say, Jimmy Savile or Jim Jones, it's going to be a huge mess.

What's the issue here?

I sometimes wonder how that works as well.

Take this song for example. It mentions gun and bullet.

I've noticed some videos have those words muted and some don't.
Its the same with radio stations. Some mute those words, some don't.

Youtube also censors violence, even when it's
important news, eg, cops assaulting people.
Many channels have to link to other platforms.

It's not the words, it's the actual content on the videos that are self-censored.
Yet you keep claiming….

the algorithm looks at and if they say the no-no words within the first 10 minutes or so the algorithm won't choose their videos.

But censoring words like suicide, murder, abuse, rape, is just absurd.

I randomly picked one of your examples:
Imagine watching a video about Jim Jones and being offended by words like 'murder' or 'suicide'? It strikes me as too much nannying.

You can search for them, that's not the issue. It's when the people on the videos say the word they blank it out. The creators themselves are doing this. I'm surprised you've not come across it. If you go to shows such as LoreLodge, Stephanie Harlowe, Simon Whistler, etc. you'll come across this.
I searched “Stephanie Harlowe, Jim Jones”.
The top 4 hits were her 4 part series on “Jim Jones and the Jonestown Tragedy”
parts 1 through 4 ( about 3-1/2 hours worth combined).
I clicked on “CULTS: Jim Jones and the Jonestown Tragedy PART 1” ……..

This is from the transcript which was word for word with what was in the video…..
Starting from the :24 second mark:
“Todays video is going to be about Jim Jones and the Jonestown Massacre now don’t get it twisted you will never hear me refer to what happened at Jonestown as a mass suicide this was a mass murder…..at the :39 second mark
39 seconds is well within the 10 minute mark.

In a quick look through the key moments listed on the videos included “Mass Suicide”
at the 1:05:45 mark of part 3

Now, I wasn’t about to sit through 3-1/2 hours of this to get the full grasp….
But it seems apparent to me that she isn’t being censored in anyway, and her not characterizing the events at Jonestown as suicide is due to her considering it a murder instead of a suicide?
Both “suicide” and “murder” were both mentioned within the first 3/4 of a minute so…..

Again, i’m in the U.S.
It isn’t being censored here.
If you are experiencing censorship….
it appears to be a regional or local thing?

Err, this isn't a debate. I'm not debating anyone. Please calm yourself.

This is not regional. YT is US based. It's a US problem.

Go to Simon Whistler's Jim Jones videos and you will see what I am talking about.

Look, I'll show you an example:

around the 35 second mark, he edits out 'suicide'.

This is not a regional thing, Americans do this too.

I mean, from what little I understand secondhand about TrashTube, it is first and foremost an advertising platform and secondarily a place for regular humans to share video-created content. Most of its moderation is automated, so yeah, there's going to be "too much nannying" that's brainlessly automated and makes no sense to appease the corporate overlords. Those who attempt to make a living on TrashTube routinely complain about TrashTube - the censorship, demonetizing, strikes, whatever. They literally have to alter their content or lose their main source of income. Which is why anyone who is actually serious about creating videos for a career doesn't use TrashTube as their main source of income, they use something like Patreon.

I watch a lot of youtube drama commentary channels that take a lot about this...the rules are inconsistently applied. You might get a channel demontetized for simply saying **** and another channel such as sssniperwolf can dox folk.

Pardon me for attempting to help you out.

I’m not debating you.
I merely pointed out that you had on multiple occasions pointed out that key words were being censored.
I then tried to see if it were happening where I was (being fully aware that regional and local filtering is a thing) in order to give you feedback.

Looking for either censoring of words or content
due to your response of…….
It's not the words, it's the actual content on the videos that are self-censored.

I reported what I found and enumerated my method.
It’s that simple…..
I’ll not bother any further.

It makes zero sense at all. I see it with channels I like, that cover real life cases. I think it's odd that you can't say the word 'rape' but you can describe in detail a child being tortured and beaten to death, such as on true crime channels. The censorship and sanitizing is on a level exceeding that of broadcast television, which is has to maintain standards otherwise they can get huge fines for indecency from the FCC.

Google really is a disgusting company, anyway. You can't count on them to make logical decisions. They'll demonetize people for the dumbest reasons, but also for nefarious political reasons. YouTube has steadily gotten worse ever since Google bought it in the mid-2000s. YouTube was a lot of fun beforehand.

Where I live, age is confirmed by signing in and entering a mobile number as well as one’s name and the phone company. Everything has to match or else there would not be any confirmation. The user has to be 19 or older.

It's about controlling the narrative. Knowledge is power, so to maintain power over others you've got to either have a source of new knowledge or a means of restricting access to it for others.
