  • I remember reading about the Thirty Year's War and about the wars that France was involved in the reign of Louis XIV, and those related to his period. Especially wars against the Ottomans, commanded by Prince Eugene of Savoy (he fought for Austria or the Holy Roman Empire (which was actually Germany, and not Rome)).

The only book I can remember is Thirty Year's War: Crises and Revolution (I think that the title). Other sources most likely came from the Britannica Encyclopedia. At the time, I frequented the local library, spending hours there.

My message/reply was too big (it won't allow me to post more than 1000 characters, so I had cut back some of it.

As I said, most of research on the Ottoman Empire was over 20 years ago, but it was about other kingdoms, wars between France and Austria (I was mainly interested in France), and Austria was in war against the Ottoman around the same time.

I have studied other empires, and they are all similar enough, that I can conclude that empires can have both positive and negative effects, and the Islamic would be no different. Whether they are best master is only subject to your perception.

I afraid I don't have sources to give you.
Hi .lava. We may have talked about the Ottoman Empire and Turks before, but I don't know if we talk about it in connection with "colonisation" or not.

I actually specialised in mythology, legend and folklore, not history. But I'd guess you could say history is my side-interest, just like arts, anthropology and religion.

Most of my knowledge about the Ottoman Empire actually stemmed from my personal research I did at least 20 years ago (or more), on the origin of Austrian Habsburg family/dynasty (as well as other European families), which coincidentally included their wars against the Ottomans in the 17th century. And Austria wasn't even my main interest; the history of France was. So the Ottoman Empire was only side-interest of a side-interest.

My interests back then, wasn't about religion, whether it be Christianity and Islam, but with how ancient and medieval empires expanded.

Thankyou for the frubals :) I'm glad you found it useful, have a look at www.changingminds.org if you're interested in this kind of thing, it's got loads of info on body language, suggestion, persuasion etc
Haha, I hope the inspiration comes to; it's slowly coming together; I've just been lazy.
Well, I'm working on an album right now; so when I finish and get it all recorded, I'll make sure you get a free copy. =D
Oh I'm doing alright; how about yourself? I'm just looking for work, trying to get my stuff settled out for school. Being lazy. You know how it is.

Yeah, a few of my friends constantly write music; I generally do too, though not all of it is readily available online, or else I would give you all of it free. =[
