  • Just finished Hundred Years of Solitude. Most excellent. Definitely the most magically real thing I've ever read.
    Speaking of, I got O sorriso do lagarto yesterday in the mail. It's next on my list.
    It's natural I think.. many people are disenfranchised and they know what to make of it, or how to best address it... It's frustrating, and taking to the streets seems to be a way to act out on that frustration.

    Magical realism seems almost like a slightly different take on science fiction, so I guess I can see that some stuff (like TV shows) have watered down the genre as a whole, but its so new and pure here.. it basically only comes through literature proper. And it's an awesomely powerful format.

    I just started the fifth part (there are five) of 2666. It's so insanely good, I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around it.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know when I get my hands on a copy.
