  • Watching the Lord of the Rings movies again in tandem with reading the books.

I think it is pretty fair to say that the Two Towers is the best movie ever made. :D
    Have fun on your adventures!

I guess it's too late now, but if I had thought of it before you lost your internet, I was going to say that you could get a big cardboard box, decorate it like a computer, cut a hole for the "screen", and then you and your sweetie could take turns sitting inside it pretending to be the internet for each other until your new connection gets hooked up.

Oh, well. Hopefully me typing it out will send out psychic waves that you'll pick up on.
Not exactly "hardcore", but in-depth. I'd like to have a good grasp of all the characters and the story overall. Not so sure about the languages though... :p
Anytime, I love open source science publications. It makes refuting creationists so much easier when anyone can read the actual paper.
    Wow, thanks for that!

The first impression I got is that the movies lost so much content, but the producers aren't to blame for that IMO. The novels are huge and even with 3.5-hour movies they couldn't nearly cover everything in the books. This is one of the main reasons why I want to give the books a go.

So basically, I'll have to read some of the novels, then back to the Silmarillion, then back again to the novels until I have all the details nailed down. Or just read one before the other then repeat.

Sounds like it'll take a lot of time, but I'm pretty sure it'll be a fun experience. :D
I want to start reading the Lord of the Rings, but not sure exactly where to start, and with you being sort of a LoTR expert, I thought it's a good idea to consult you. :D

Should I read the main trilogy first then move on to the Silmarillion, or vice versa? Which would make the overall story clearer and easier to comprehend as I move across the books?
"If you must know, one end is hooked up to a car battery and the other is attached to Quagmires toilet seat"
"Hey Kittie!!! I need your help with an experiment. Hold these two wires, I'll go in the other room, and when I say "go" put them together, kay?"
