Ditto to you, and sorry for the late response as we've been on the road for the last couple of weeks. We're finally getting home tomorrow to our place in da U.P. Take care.
A little inactive lately, my beloved partner Joseph has wound up in hospital with Guillain-Barre syndrome, and is likely to be gone for months. Thank whatever for a Canadian health care system. This is one of those things that could bankrupt Americans.

I'm so sorry to hear this, but I hope he improves. We have a friend that had this happen to her, and it literally took months for her to recover, so please have patience. Take care, my friend.
LOL! I've never noticed you were a "slur hurler." Funny the things I manage to miss.
Hey! I like your signature! (Also, I always like it when I discover that I'm not the oldest person on RF. )
Hey Metis, I saw the 'Jewish Renewal' label floating around your profile somewhere some time ago, if I'm not mistaken. Are you particularly familiar with the movement? :)

Ah, I didn't that origin story about the Dalai Lama, thanks! It seems a very positive movement to me. Yeah, I think you're right r.e. Orthodoxy's opinion on it, I guess it's mostly a Progressives affair. So what makes mysticism Jewish if it isn't kabbalistic?

A heavy emphasis on meditation plus using some of the lessons of the Chasidim, especially Nachman of Braslav who said that one cannot approach God through intellect alone but more through emotion. IOW, one should try and immerse themselves into God, which is an eastern teaching as well. Anyhow, I gotta go for now, so please respond and I'll get back to ya later today or on Monday.

OK, so would you say it's somewhat syncretic. I haven't come across Nachman much (aside from as referenced by a certain Hebrew mantra) but I think the Baal Shem Tov said some awesome stuff. I think religions come from the same wellspring, so it makes sense similar things would come up :) OK, have a nice afternoon or weekend.
Thanks for that like. Kinda proves I am not imagining this place. haha

Ya, I think we all need some positive input to make sure we haven't fallen off the deep end. Take care.
Metis, I do not believe people go to heaven until after judgment. I did see one comment in which you said you didn't believe people did go directly to heaven, but my confusion came when I noticed your other comments which implied you did believe people went directly to heaven, so with that I apologize for the mix up on my part.
Thanks for the "steps to improvement" frub!
