  • I'm originally from San Francisco. Then I lived in New Orleans with my dad's side of the family for a little while when I was very, very young. Then moved back to SF. Then my dad took off and my mom and I came here to live with her side of the family in 1997. Her dad died in 2007 and we moved to Clintonville in 2008. Now we're living out by Easton. I never liked it here in Ohio but we're too poor to go back to Cali.
I actually converted to Catholicism when I was 16/17. (I started going to Mass at 16 and was Baptized and Confirmed at 17.) There's no Catholics in my family and my mom converted along with me.
By the way, I've been to Salzburg, as well as to several other cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Austria is actually my favorite of the German-speaking countries.

So what are you going to do after you finish your schooling? And what made you pick German as a major? I think that's so cool! German isn't actually a very common major these days. ;) I ought to practice my german with you! At the very least, it would provide you with some entertainment.
My dad had a Ph.D. in German and taught at the Univeristy of Utah for over 30 years. Like you, he wasn't a native German speaker. He taught me a few phrases and songs as a child. I took German in HS and again in college (40 years ago!). In college, my focus was to take enough credit hours to get a B.A. (I was an English major) and to improve my GPA. I did very well, but my goal wasn't to really learn the language. A year ago, I got it into my head that I wanted to give learning German another try, so I signed up for classes at the university under a Utah law that allows seniors to take regular college classes for $25! So far, I've taken 3 semesters of German (repeating beginning and intermediate classes), but I'm in a classes with college-age students who are paying something like $450 for the same class. I feel a little bit out-of-place sometimes, but I'm actually getting the highest grades in the class. Anyway, I'm now waiting for the results of my final.
I just realized that you live in Austria! That's so cool! Where in Austria? Are you Austrian?
Right on, I noticed on your profile something about being elsewhere. That is very cool man.
I hope you have an awesome year! Will probably see you around at different times though, eh?

I am in a new town myself, still wobbling between Anglican and Orthodox...
But I've only been here a short time, and haven't gotten too deep into either Church, in the area, yet.
Not sure how that'll pan out for me.

    The Spirit shall lead!

Good hearing back from you. Keep in touch.
And keep this sinner in your prayers, please.
