  • Good morning! Do you know what today is?

It's the last day of your January! :D

So... to recap: first we had dubstep, then we had weird songs, and then we had sea shanties. I figured for the last day of your January, I'd give you something that combines all three.

    That's right! A weird dubstep shanty! :D

My FL Dubstepish version of an old sea shanty - Drunken Sailor - YouTube

It's dubstep(-ish) and it's a sea shanty, and I think those two things together automatically qualify it as weird.

But since that song's kinda crappy, here's a good song to make up for it:

Stan Rogers - Mary Ellen Carter - YouTube

I hope I helped your January go by a bit quicker... or at least more enjoyably. :)
It can be used as a light-duty serving tray, or as an oversized frisbee... and I've heard that some people drum with them, the weirdos.
    Good morning...ish! :D

It's a fine day here that I think deserves a fine Newfoundland shanty, so here you go:

Great Big Sea - Excursion Around the Bay - YouTube

    :D

... and I think I'm going to be asking for a bodhran for my birthday. :D
    That's good, then.

I know no Javascript. I did C++ in school, and that programming course was all that I needed to reassure me that I made the right choice by not taking computer science. :D
BTW - I agree with you: there aren't enough work songs these days. And I have a project for you: to come up with a shanty that matches the rhythm of a modern task. Coding and debugging, maybe? :D
    Really?

I thought about saying something about that as a sort of introduction, but I didn't want to presume to teach the music expert about music. :)
    Good morning!

For a change, I thought I'd do something other than these not-quite-a-shanty-but-I'll-call-it-a-shanty-anyway songs and give you a real, proper shanty:

Sea Shanties: Haul Away For Rosie - YouTube

... with, for some reason, anime-style pencil drawings.

I actually kinda like this one... the song and the drawings. :)
Good morning! Your shanty for the day:

Great Big Sea Lukey Video - YouTube

Yeah... I'd say it counts as a shanty. :)

Oh - and another song... not really a shanty, but I think you'll like it. It's kind of a love song to Newfoundland: Cape St. Mary's, The Irish Descendants, North Texas Irish Festival, Dallas - YouTube
Since I know you don't have enough messages on your profile as it is...

I got to thinking: if you're getting into Irish music, here's a good song to get your kids into it, too:

The Irish Rovers - The Rattling Bog, 3 of 11 - YouTube

It's one I really liked to sing along to when I was little. :)
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow I'm getting an oil change for Genevieve (BTW: did I mention my car's name is now Genevieve? :) ) and spending the afternoon swinging a sword around. Sunday I plan to flop.

That's if this cold doesn't get any worse. If it does, I may have an all-flopping weekend.

    You?
I just had a look - Wikipedia makes it sound like the song was originally American. Neat. - reminds me of Moby Dick.
Good morning (barely... for you. It's already afternoon here)! :D Something in a shanty, perhaps?

I think this one's kinda neat. You don't hear many minor key shanties.

Stan Rogers - Rolling Down To Old Maui - YouTube

BTW: along with Irish stuff, I recommend that you get into Stan Roger's music. :)
