Honest question but isn't it a little hard to imagine Hinduism without at least the symbolism of deities? At least I'm having difficulty doing so, but I also think they are more than just symbols.
If any fellow Hindus feel otherwise I'd like to understand that view :)
Thank you for sharing this :D
For those who don't know, this was written by Vasugupta in the 800's CE after he had already written the Shiva Sutras kind of as a commentary or follow up.
As a side note, I wanted to ask you @Srivijaya and perhaps this is just me but I found it would sometimes...
In many ways this reminds me of how Trika sees Shiva, as Shakti as the expression of Shiva but also Shiva but at the same time, as it was stated by another:
I can see that too. In Trika we believe that Maya is a concrete thing, not just an illusion (although we have illusionary ideas about...
Bernie Sanders has his own view:
One I happen to agree with and think many different political ideologies can agree on; we need to be consistent.
So the question has to be asked, if we are to be consistent where do we draw the line and why?
Solid reasoning would mean any such standards...
I don't know about you but I find pain and suffering rather unpleasant and so not good. (excluding the fun kinky stuff but that's not truly suffering).
What of adversity itself is bad? If it's the crucible by which growth comes from?
They probably wouldn't find my body for weeks if not days After a certain point of decay getting eaten by hungry cats that were out of food long enough is a real possibility.
How people would feel, should they even find out I'd have no idea.
10. Hell ya guns! I don't see the problem. The gun and baby thing I'm calling bunk on tho.
9. Bestiality can fall under animal abuse and is still illegal in most local jurisdictions it just isn't explicitly written out in those states and premarital sex isn't really illegal.
8. True and I do...
Uh, no I didn't strawman you. I made it pretty clear I wasn't attributing to you what I was describing.
Good luck with that, but for the record being (actually) skeptical and mocking something is very different. Mockery doesn't invite any real discussion
Wouldn't one of those places be the...
Alright I understand. Mistakes happen.
Then the majority of humans are mentally ill by that standard. Only 18% of people are atheist or irreligious. And I'd think the majority of religious believe in some form of theism. That's way too many people to be a disorder anymore than lactose...
Are you serious? How can you interpret that as literally the opposite of what I was actually saying?
What I actually said (sarcastically):
Pretty much all of your response is one giant strawman. But I guess this is what i get when I try to make a bunch of sarcastic points about the...
I think another thing I've been working on over the years too, is to explain that religion is a very broad multidimensional spectrum. How much of the 'supernatural' someone believes in (if any) can vary as much as how 'theistic' or not we are. It's a funny place to be called an atheist or theist...
Yes, you responded agreeing with, emphasis added:
So my own experiences in my life and reacting to just what was said is being dramatic? Get real.
Mocking beliefs as "mentally ill" is just exacerbating a very real stigma against actual mental illness. It's malicious and that's the only...
I dunno what's with the others not discussing/debating what he was called during the time period the OP asked about. If he was called El long before that or whatever isn't relevant.
At least I'm enjoying learning a bit' more from the Jewish posters about the w and v thing. Though I was hoping...
Thank you for using mental illness as something to be mocked. I'll be sure to confide in the fact that I have bipolar as a reason that people can attack me and my beliefs. I love it when people assume I believe in my religion because I'm mentally ill and would rather make assumptions and petty...
Speaking just for the Abrahamic God;
No, because there isn't any J sound in Hebrew.
I'm sure the earliest Christians, considering themselves Jewish, probably followed the customs of their day regarding what to call their God. So uh, I would say at the very least they would then go by actual...
You don't get it, do you? You're still making assumptions about what I've seen and/or done and making personal comments about me and my life when you have no way to know.
Actually I take that back, you should know. I even said as much in post #2. It took me about a year after I first decided I...
I'm going to need to ask you to take this back and apologize.
Alcoholism destroyed my family and a lot in my family have had it, didn't you see what I said in my previous post? You know nothing about my life or what I've seen/faced and I'd say your making assumptions but I already told you in...
I don't believe that's it's "singular intent". I'm not here to debate though.
So where do the atheist or non religious alcoholics go? Since by the way the program is designed to need that belief.
Actually, this is the bigger problem to me since some courts rule people need to go to AA if they...
