    Believing in God without religion

I have cross posted this in the Deism forum as well, since I'm not sure where it makes the most sense. There doesn't seem to be a generic "Theism". It's automatically subdivided into some other organized religion, be it Judaism, Islam, Christianity, etc. I understand the basic premise of...

    Monotheistic Religion of Free-Thinkers?

I just wanted to say thank you again to everyone who weighed in on my dilemma. I have reread everyone's insights and find myself in a place where I am ready to belong to a group, loosely, without becoming enmeshed with it on every conceivable point. The pandemic quarantine has also forced me to...

Is there a Theist equivalent to Deism?

I realize this may be better asked in the Theism forum, and I plan to cross post. But whenever I have looked at Theism in the past, there doesn't seem to be a generic "Theism". It's automatically subdivided into some other organized religion, be it Judaism, Islam, Christianity, etc. I...

should I be an atheist or religious?

This is what I was going to recommend. And you do not have to have a substance abuse problem to benefit! I attend a group for codependency, which basically means people pleasing, seeking external validation, problematic relational boundaries, etc. It has been super helpful and life changing. My...

    Monotheistic Religion of Free-Thinkers?

True, but whom we worship matters.

    Monotheistic Religion of Free-Thinkers?

I just reread your advice and want to again thank you. When I mentioned to my husband that I see religious worldviews divided into three areas (theology, morality, and practice), and that I'm unable to find a faith that I agree with on all three, he suggested the most important if the three is...

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

Thank you all for your clarifying questions and comments. I hadn't mentioned originally or didn't explain well that my hesitation with basing my faith on a holy book or an individual claiming to have special communication from God is problematic for me because I believe in universal revelation...

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

The Baha'i accept revelations from various prophets, right? I'm weary of basing my faith on the revelations to other people. I believe God speaks to everyone, and I find it troublesome to base my belief system on scriptures over personal and universal revelation.

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

Nothing, except I'm not trying to base my faith on someone else's alleged revelation.

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

So.. . It doesn't fall in the cultural appropriation category? I once had a similar question regarding Native American spiritually and that's pretty much the response I got. I tried to "go back to my own roots" in pre-Christian Europe, but NeoPaganism didn't last for me.

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

Thanks. I'll check out the post this reference. Excellent question. Thanks for the food for thought. I guess what's underlying those statements for me is the idea that someone takes it upon themselves to claim to speak for God, either by writing something, saying it is inspired by God, and...

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

I think I may need to revisit Christian Deism. I thought of this after posting here.

    Good points. Hm.

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

I'm afraid this thread may get off track here. I believe in social justice for everyone, children of all ages included. And I believe life supercedes every other liberty we have. If we don't support life, we're just cherry picking pet issues, IMHO. But like I said, my post and question is not...

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

Interesting choice of words. I believe in protecting human life bc it's a Principe based on natural law. We all have a right to our life. But I digress. I'm afraid you might be right, and that's a damn shame if I have to choose between morality and rationality. Those should not be opposed to...

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

    I don't know what you're referring to?

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

Thanks, I've taken the quiz multiple times. It has been pointing me to Liberal-Quakers but I already tried attending meetings for worship. They are all for social justice, but sadly this doesn't usually extend to babies in the womb.

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

Thanks. I used to be NeoPagan for a couple of years. I didn't find the moral standards I'm looking for though.

Does any existing faith fit these criteria?

Taking religion quizzes isn't helping. I'm wondering if there's a faith tradition other that: 1. Acknowledges and worships the Creator 2. Has clear moral standards based on universal principles (including not supporting abortion-on-demand) 3. Is accessible universally, not depending on being...

    Faith in no God

Actually, I'm afraid I'm not the one who doesn't understand natural law. There's the laws of nature, such as gravity, and there's natural law or first principles that dictate what human actions ought to be like. But regardless, as I said previously, people will believe, or not believe, whatever...
