You obviously have no idea what "communism" refers to, huh? There is nothing here about the state taking control of private industry, so your comment makes absolutely no sense.
There isn't anything in that article from the New Testament that condones slavery that I see. It is mentioned and not attacked, but omission of forbidding it is not condoning it.
But, if you have some examples of New Testament quotes that condone slavery, I would love to see them. It is...
Public Accommodation laws were put into place to stop discrimination. A baker shouldn't be forced to design a specialty cake for a same-sex wedding, but that wasn't the case here. It was a blank cake that could have been used for anything. Public Accomodation laws specifically stop an owner...
From the face of it, I think there is a 100% chance that it will be overturned on appeal. If the cake was at least somewhat specifically designed for the same-sex wedding, the baker might have a point. No artist should be forced to create any work of art against their will. But, the cake in...
If you are asking for specifics, I'm not a mind-reader, nor a time traveler, so I can't provide specifics. But, specifics aren't necessary. You just have to look at what shapes our conscience today. Just look at homosexuality. My Dad, for example, changed his mind because of experience in...
Nice straw man, but that is not how I am defining "earth-like planet". Here is how I am using the term (from Space.com):
"The planets considered Earth-like are rocky on their surface and about 0.5 to 1.5 times the size of Earth. They also land in the "habitable zone" of their orbiting stars...
No. In the US, it wasn't even the norm. The trend was that more states (and far more of the population) would be slave-free even before the civil war. More and more people were realizing that enslaving humans was immoral, like the rest of the world. Just think about the fact that slavery in...
This entire argument seems to be one huge logical fallacy. This is just an argument from ignorance, using the lack of currently available evidence for the existence of alien life as evidence that alien life does not exist. Considering that we aren't talking about a closed system, and more than...
There are billions of earth like planets in the Milky Way alone. The Milky Way is merely one of roughly 100 billion galaxies. Now, when you consider the fact that 99.99999% of these earth like planets are much too far away for us to have communicated or to have recieved communication from any...
Well, the Democrats are in the minority in both houses, so it is to be expected. Even if they brought up bills, it would be a waste of time, as the Republicans are not willing to work with them on anything that goes agaisnt Trump's agenda. And, I'm pretty sure any idea from the democrats is...
"Emptying the mind" in regards to meditation usually refers to stopping yourself from thinking about anything ... relaxing the mind so to speak. Sometimes I think about it like self-hypnosis.
But, I don't see what you are responding to here. I said that religious people can meditate just...
Overtime, the idea of liberty, freedom and morality gained traction and, as a result, the site of slavery began to bother the consciences of many. People's minds didn't just magically change on their own. The norms of society and philosophical advances and understanding along with religious...
By, "unreliable" I was referring to the fact that consciences are subjective in nature. It's not like a voice from a 3rd, all-knowing party letting you know what's right and wrong. It's still you, it is just subconscious.
But, belief in gods being meritorious is not a requirement for a religion to be theistic. If the religion teaches that gods exist or respect the existence of gods, then it is theistic.
It helps us live and thrive in the society in which we live. It is shaped by our upbringing, so, if we stay in a similar society as an adult, it will be a big help. In other words, it helps us to "fit in". That IS its purpose.
And, just like everything else in this universe, it is not nearly...
I think it is pretty solid, indisputable facts that consciences are not reliable and are extremely subjective. I don't understand how anyone could even doubt this after looking at the evidence.
I think that is 100% provable and obvious. Just look at things like levels of modesty, importance of religious beliefs, foods that shouldn't be eaten, alcohol consumption, certain drug consumption, etc. Our environments shape our consciences for sure.
