Are we saved by our own efforts or are we saved by God's efforts ?

Yes, one helpful (there are many!) passage, after someone has learned such key things as confession and more like in 1rst John 1:5-2:17 and other things you summarize -- is just the general message that Paul wrote in Philippians ch 3 on he how he did not consider himself to have already...

Are we saved by our own efforts or are we saved by God's efforts ?

My close and very extensively educated in Catholic doctrine friend says it as "we are saved, we are being saved (it's not yet finished), and we will be saved" -- all 3 tenses, past, present, future.

Are we saved by our own efforts or are we saved by God's efforts ?

While you can find minority views of various kinds, the predominate view I think is generally (several views fall into this broad category) that we choose to repent and turn to God and He helps us, both. While one can then lay out all sorts of details, I think it's far better to just read with...

    Why This Growing Trend?

A lot of people tend to get depressed or sad because it's so hard to find anyone that loves them, is my impression. The human need to love and be loved is wired into our brains. Not having enough love hits some worse that others though, just like you suggest, according to things like low self...

    Why This Growing Trend?

One key part of the big picture answer has been given a few times I bet, I saw already in post #3, the isolation that comes from social media. Here's my theory on why that is going to be depressing for very many people in a bit more detail:. On social media a person will normally post, and...

    Monopolies

I'm not that cynical to think that regardless of the legal heft Amazon can bring, that the eventual judgements of courts depend on how many lawyers one can hire. Sure, one would need to have an idealistic lawyer that is willing to speculatively work on it without being sure how long until a...

    Monopolies

Patent infringement/violations can be taken to court and Amazon (and/or partners involved) made to pay $ if it is doing that.

    Monopolies

Though we get many things shipped from Amazon over the course of a year, just yesterday (by chance) we got 2 deliveries here on the same day from competitors to Amazon. When I got home, instead of nothing or an Amazon prime box on the step, it was 2 packages from non-Amazon retailers selling...

ABRAHAMICS ONLY: The Tree called the knowledge of good and evil, (Genesis: a closer look) continued.

Let's read with fresh eyes, not letting any previous view control. Genesis 3 NIV There's so much, so rich. The birth of consciousness, the fall from grace because of the loss of faith, the beginning of judgmental judging and blaming that comes from assuming to oneself the power of judgements...

ABRAHAMICS ONLY: The Tree called the knowledge of good and evil, (Genesis: a closer look) continued.

 well, that's not really the intended meaning.

ABRAHAMICS ONLY: The Tree called the knowledge of good and evil, (Genesis: a closer look) continued.

I agree, but leave out 'phallic' because that's not in this text in any direct way (as it is in some other religions).

ABRAHAMICS ONLY: The Tree called the knowledge of good and evil, (Genesis: a closer look) continued.

It's so instructive to notice again (with a fresh look) just what the temptation was precisely that the serpent offered was, first that God was maybe unreasonable, and then more, worse... 1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman...

Does anybody on here like dark nights? Were you can see all the stars?

And when it's so dark the Milky Way is bright! :-) That's a heaven on Earth moment.

It's the best 5 senses thing we get to experience here to me, unless you count sexual euphoria, and then it's 2nd, but these 2 gap the 3rd thing a lot. Only the ineffable non physical side has anything to offer that's even better than these.

ABRAHAMICS ONLY: The Tree called the knowledge of good and evil, (Genesis: a closer look) continued.

I will indeed, and I don't mind even though I've read these chapters more than a dozen times. You should not mind reading them again either. Here are those verses Genesis 2:16-17 New International Version 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the...
