Sikh Queenslanders allowed to carry ceremonial knives in schools after court ruling

Carrying the 5 Ks (of which kirpan is one) is only an obligation for initiated Sikhs. I'm curious what percentage of school students are actually initiated and taking their religious obligation seriously enough to genuinely require this exemption.

    Small Groups

Thanks for the reply, Sand Dancer :) I get the feeling that formal small groups aren't a thing. If anyone is in a more formal one, I'd love to hear from you! And I'm with you, Sand Dancer - opportunities for questions and discussion are vital for one's growth. It's a red flag if a place or...

    Origin of the Reformation

I don't know enough to answer or contribute in any meaningful way. But I do love Jan Hus.

    The Didache

@Rival @Wandering Monk Right, I found the bit about fasting. Personally, I'm not comfortable with this language. "8 Your fasts must not be identical with those of the hypocrites. They fast on Mondays and Thursdays; but you should fast on Wednesdays and Fridays."

    The Didache

@Rival Thanks for the tag. I haven't studied thIs topic in any depth, but one thing jumps out at me from reading the thread is that Methodists are encouraged to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays. I was wondering where it came from. Now I want to check when the Didache was found and if Wesley...

Which sacred texts of your own and other traditions have you studied?

    * A Witch's Bible and several other Wiccan books * Tao Te Ching (read it, but in honesty, can't say I've studied it) * Sri Guru Granth Sahib (studied it for several years) * Various Heathen texts * The Bible (Protestant canon in English, read it through once, currently studying, and will...

Could a moderator please move this thread into the Protestantism DIR? I accidentally put it in the wrong place, sorry. Many thanks.

    Identity in Christ

Hello I've been on a journey recently learning more about finding my identity in Christ. It seems to me that it is an essential, fundamental, critical part of faith, yet as soon as I grasp it, it slips away from me. But it feels like growth in the right direction. So, what does the phrase...

    Small Groups

Hi This thread is supposed to be about everything around Christian "small groups" and people's experiences with them. I'm a relatively new Christian (3 years) and have only ever been part of one small group. I'm interested to hear about other people's experiences. Are you in one? What's...

Three Steps Forward, Two Steps Back

Hello Can you tell me more about how the article relates to Ghandi? Thanks Postscript: I've just visited your profile and seen your religious identification. Now I understand your post better and you don't need to answer the question if you don't want to.

    Romans 1:20

I suppose "recognize" works. Other translations express the verse differently. You might find one of them easier to understand. https://www.biblestudytools.com/romans/1-20-compare.html

    Where Do You Usually Shop?

98% the local supermarket. I drive there and browse; rarely use home delivery or click and collect. But I'm trying to visit more specialty wholefood shops to fill my own containers with stuff like rice, pasta, spices, seeds, flour, etc. To reduce waste. Gee it's expensive tho.

    Your Christian Identity

I think that just like it's OK to feel sexual desire for your spouse (but not OK to lust after other people), it's OK to cuss when you stub your toe (but not OK to be cruel, uncouth, etc. with your words). Being cruel with your words may not even involve cuss words. I think this is a very...
