WHY I LEFT ISLAM - The Story of An Apostate In Saudi

If I've never encountered it, then is it really worth anything?

WHY I LEFT ISLAM - The Story of An Apostate In Saudi

I think the video misses an important point though. It's not Islam that needs to reform, but humanity. Humanity needs to reform so that we can live in a world without religion (but not necessarily without faiths or spirituality- although that should certainly be the ideal).

WHY I LEFT ISLAM - The Story of An Apostate In Saudi

Especially when you can imagine that 'humanely' merely means 'killed quickly'.

WHY I LEFT ISLAM - The Story of An Apostate In Saudi

I wonder how many people stay with Islam purely out of fear?

Is free will really an illusion?

My definition would be 'Action without cause'.

Is free will really an illusion?

But the word 'Free Will' isn't useless. Just useless to you because it doesn't conform to what you think it should mean.

Is free will really an illusion?

    Lunchtime doubly so.

Is free will really an illusion?

Who said it had to have a meaning?
  9. Mycroft

Is free will really an illusion?

But that's a false appropriation of the concept.

Is free will really an illusion?

Genes, to a degree, give us a propensity toward certain kinds of behaviour, but at the same time a lot of our behaviour is as the result of our experiences and influences throughout life as we go up. Human beings, like any other creature, are responding organisms. We respond to stimuli. If we...

    Eating Meat =/= Cannibalism

Which reminds me. If everyone was suddenly Vegan, who would be left to confirm whether meat-substitutes taste like the real thing?

    Eating Meat =/= Cannibalism

My usual (joking to wind them up) response is that meat eaters are doing their bit for the environment. Without us, we'd be overrun with cows, and all that poopy methane will have a runaway effect on greenhouse gases! Poopy Methane™ It comes out of your bum.

Trump is the Perfect President for the US.

Now you may be wondering whether I've taken some seriously potent drugs, but hear me out. The reason trump is the best President for the US is exactly because he'll be the worst. He'll ruin the economy (what's left of it) alienate allies, and probably end up betraying the rights of very many...

    Eating Meat =/= Cannibalism

You do realise I wasn't being all that serious about it, right? :P But I suppose if you consider all creatures upon the earth 'Earthlings' then yeah. But that's just Semantic Word Magic (As Korzybski would call it).

    Eating Meat =/= Cannibalism

Well the first begins with molecular biology. We are not pigs, cows, chickens, etc. We are humans. So only eating other humans counts as cannibalism. :D

"Trump will be the Nominee and the GOP (Unfortunately) will be Fine"

I've been wondering whether Trump is the perfect person to become President of America of late.

    Eating Meat =/= Cannibalism

You say that, but there are some extremist feminists who believe that sex of any kind with a woman (including fully consensual sex) is rape.

    Eating Meat =/= Cannibalism

The 'murderer' stance also ignores the fact that tens of millions of animals are killed (on purpose as well as accidentally) in the course of harvesting crops. Voles, Shrew, Mice are swept up in the blades of combine harvesters, as well as have poisons laid out for them so they die horrible...

    Eating Meat =/= Cannibalism

I think that the view merely makes the conceited assumption that human beings are somehow above nature, and not a part of it. We eat meat, so do other animals. We are all part of nature.

    Eating Meat =/= Cannibalism

A friend of mine, tonight, said that 'eating meat is no different to cannibalism.' She's a vegan. I tried to explain that comparing the eating of meat to the eating of humans is a little drastic, and that there are several very good scientific reasons why the comparison is a false one. Has...
