"Trump will be the Nominee and the GOP (Unfortunately) will be Fine"

The GOP has been cultivating the Trump electorate for generations now. You can draw a direct line from Nixon’s “silent majority,” through Reagan’s sunny obliviousness, through George W. Bush’s flippant swagger, through rabid anti-intellectualism of Sarah Palin, right to the substanceless jingoistic braggadocio of Donald Trump. For decades, the Republican Party has succeeded by intentionally fostering an electorate of fanatical ignoramuses, and now this their harvest.
And there you have it.

What really scares me isn't Trump. What scares me is such a large body of people look to him and say "You know what, he's right!" His politics, quite frankly, scare the hell out of me. Word play and political dialogue aside, I see his approach to many social/minority issues as down right dangerous. Whats worse is the chorus of apologetic voters who say "He isn't all that bad" or "You are simply misunderstanding." My response to that is: I hope so, but I don't think so. If he is elected, it would solidify the pessimistic idea in my head that I share a country with a large group of narcissistic, elitist jerks who are looking to further their own status quo at the direct expense of other people.

Trump should scare you.
But his opposition (both Dem & Pub) doesn't ?
A problem with the author of the linked article is that he typifies the unthinking hostile polarization which interferes with thoughtful evaluation of the candidates & selecting from them. He begins with the presumption that it's unfortunate that the GOP will be fine. (Because, of course, only the Democrats are fit to rule us?) Short on analysis, but long on insult, he describes them with "obliviousness", "vomited", "rabid", "anti-intellectualism", "substanceless", "jingoistic", "fanatical ignoramuses", etc.
What do I see as dangerous?
It's not so much that voters will condemn the opposition for various faults, & then leap to another with the same.
I'm dismayed that even if they do examine their own, they'll still vote for more war, surveillance, taxes & bureaucracy.

Sure they do. But that is an much larger problem. You are forced to make a decision between two candidates and they both usually suck. (Excuse my expert level political analysis there :) )

A bit more to my point above. Is there a candidate that votes against all of these things? Usually not. Bernie might be the closest but he won't make it out of the primaries, I am afraid.

Aye, it looks like the fix in for Hillary.
Use your political influence to changes things, & make me wrong!

This. And even if the man has a valid point what he portraits himself as speaks so loudly that you couldn't hear what he is saying. I think what your seeing is an electorate that is so fed up with the political mumbo-jumbo that they are turning to someone that mostly talks and thinks as they do.

If that person is Trump then we need to begin to accept the fact that this country is full of people who are just like him. Not a very comforting thought at all.

Now you know how I feel about the last two presidential elections.

Which is why I have said I will have given up on the States if it happens.
I'll do everything in my power to leave the country. If I can't, I will be protesting.

Sure, the idea of universal healthcare, the closing of GITMO, and the acceptance of gay marriage had me shaking in my shoes too.

Pretty good article, I think:

But what do you think of it?

It's nothing but a hate-filled diatribe against people with different opinions than the author. He even insults his own party by calling them "stupidly complacent moderates and liberals".

Trump scares me LESS than his opposition.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Not that I am enamored with Trump but he just might be the lesser of two
evils. Or 3 evils or more.

Lesser of two evils is still evil. Forgot who said that but you get the point. The only thing I agree with Trump on is letting Russia handle ISIL, unless he changed his views and if he did change his views that would be a first.

Ahem....he didn't close GITMO, & he initially ran in opposition to gay marriage.
And this health care thing isn't going too well.
Romney would'a been the better one to socialize the system.
And we had Obama's......
- Continuing the wars
- Ramping up surveillance
- Squashing gov whistleblowers
